Default Brakes squeaking while steering

Hello All,

Before everyone thinks this is another thread about squeaking brakes when braking, my question is a bit different. I think.

When I am at full steering wheel lock to the left and moving forward slowly (e.g. when maneuvering in a parking lot) I will get this scraping/squeaking sound. This won't happen if I turn to the right or if I'm turned to the left and reverse. It only seems to happen when I turn to the left at full lock and move forward.

I remember I had this problem when I first got my brake pads replaced at the dealership last year under the TSB for squeaky brakes, but I can't remember what they told me was the problem or the solution, but whatever they did got rid of the problem for a year or so. I think it would be hard for me to go back and get them to take a look at it, especially now that I'm out of warranty.

Does anyone know what is happening here and/or how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Anyone ever hear of their driver's side airbag shorting, resulting in requiring a new airbag? My car was throwing an SRS code and my independent mechanic deduced that this was the problem/solution. He reset the code and the light hasn't come back on yet in the past 5 days so I'll have to see if it comes back or not...

it could possibly be the same problem i had. when i turned right i would get a scraping sound like i was dragging an empty coffee can. ended up being the rotor scraping against the dust shield. when i changed my brakes i found the spot and just bent the shield back a little. presto! sound is gone!

if it sounds like rocks rattling in a can though, that means the boot around the axle joint is torn and dirt has gotten in. hope this helps.

If that sounds only comes on when you are fully at the steering lock and moving forward, it is a dust shield scrapping against the rotor. I had the same thing happen to me out of the blue, first it was the right side then the left side. All I did was take a 8" flat head screw driver and push against the dust shield. Did it in 4 places of the dust shield (top, bottom, right and left) without taking the wheels off. Remember you really need to push hard that dust shield is solid metal.

Thanks guys! You guys are awesome! I think this is most likely what is happening. The dust shield is the black disc (for lack of a better description) that sits behind the rotor, right? I will give it a shot after work today. Thanks again!
