Default Tranny Service Schedule

Did someone sue Lexus for false service intervals or something.
Several months ago I tried to get the spark plugs changed in our 06 GS but was told they didn't need it until at least 100K miles. The owners manual says 60K. I was okay with not getting it but didn't find out why the change.

Today I go in for transmission fluid change on the 07 GS and was told it's not needed until at least 90K miles. The service rep says they changed it from every 30K. I told him I knew 30K was a crock of crap but was willing to do it if I never hear them say a service was missed when warranty repairs were needed. He assured me it was "officially" changed and not to worry.

He couldn't tell me whether it was a manufacturer or dealer decision.

Anyone know what gives? Just curious.

the tranny on 3gs is sealed, not supposed to touch until around 100k, and even at that point it's inspection and then determine what to do. same thing for ls460 (8 speed)

manual says 60k? that's odd, it's been mentioned before the tranny is completely sealed. all dealers know about that

the dealership here told me the transmission on the 3rd gen cars don't even have dipsticks or ways to change the fluid, as it is sealed, and we went thru the service schedule, and it is not specified anywhere to do so... however, my transmisson is f'ed up due to sticking shift solenoids... but this information was attained just yesterday in my doing due dilligence.

I believe it says 30K.
The fluid was changed on our 06 GS about 2 years ago.

Yeah I recall my 06' manual saying the same thing, including the spark plugs. Not really sure what it was changed for.

ok, again the 06 transmission is different from the prior cars, and "according" to 4 different advisors, there are not any easy ways to change the transmission fluid in this car, and no measuring apparatus to do so with, which I guess is why it doesn't have a dipstick.

He did mention that, as I asked about all of ya'll who have been told that your transmission fluid has been changed on some kind of intervals, that some have been charged un-necessarily as that service isn't even in the scheduled maintenance.

My service rep told me not to worry about that one either. When it looks dirty he'll tell me to change it.

I wish he had told me that earlier. I had everything done to the 06 - tranny, brake, differential and radiator. Now they are singing a different tune.

My friend had an LS400 1996, thing had 245k miles on it. He bought the car when it had 80k miles on it, he never changed tranny fluid. It had a dipstick when we took the dipstick out and looked, tranny color was nice and shiny red. So honestly if it doesn't say to change it don't even bother. There is no dipstick i wouldn't trust them to put right amount as there is no way to tell.

It's like changing differential fluid. The right amount in these transmissions is the amount until it weeps out the fill hole when level. It's not that hard for them to do it at all. The only thing is you can't get as much old fluid out of these types of transmissions.

My Maintenance Schedule booklet says "Replace automatic transmission fluid every 72 months/96,000 km" (which is 60K miles). This is under section "Additional Service Requirements". I have an 07 GS.
