Electronic Traction Control Settings
This may be a foolish question - probably is - but the manual isn't really clear on it.
As we all know, the traction control has a default setting and two others: "Power" and "Snow".
"Snow" isn't really important in central NC, though I will certainly employ it if winter weather strikes and my GS is not safe in the garage, as it should be.
But ... what about "Power"? Is it designed for MORE traction, such as when going up a steep hill, or is it more akin to a "Sport" setting?
Because in "Power" setting the car seems quicker off the line and slower shifting in the automatic transmission. It also seems to give a better "boost" when you accelerate.
So can someone tell me what the "Power" setting is all about, or what (if anything) I should use it for on a regular basis? Thank you.

The ECT settings you're talking about have nothing to do with traction control and just changes the transmission shifting behavior. Also, searching works as this setting is discussed all over the place on club lexus in general.
Correct, the ECT settings only alter shift points and throttle response. That's pretty much it!
Depending on the model of your GS, you may have two traction control settings. I have a 2009 GS460, and with one press of VSC button, i have traction semi - off where it will kick in again once the gear shifts into 2nd from 1st. Also, the car may slip slightly but traction kicks in just in time to get you out of trouble.
Press the VSC for 5 seconds, the traction control turns completely off! And stays off until you press the VSC again!

Thank you. That is very helpful. It's interesting to learn more about this car in the short time I've had it!
I was worried that I might be doing the equivalent of driving around with the equivalent of a "2" setting on the old PRNDL21 setup and thus doing something stupid!
