Default Catalytic Converter

Has anyone ever had problems with their catalytic converter. Not much of a car wiz, so is this a major problem.

I hear if you live in the wrong neighborhood, they often get stolen for the precious metals content.

Haven't had any problems. That being said it should be one of the best warranted parts in the car due to the usually longer emissions warranty.

I do know someone who had the catalytic converter stolen from a jeep not once but twice though.

No problems here.

I don't think I've ever had a catalytic converter issue. My 2000 Jeep has 166k on it, no problems with emissions or anything.

Its not a mechanical device. Its just a pipe filled with precious metals which catalyze a chemical reaction. Not much to break there, but definitely something to steal.

Wouldn't it be hard to get to the catalytic converter since its covered by hard plastic, then again things can happen!

It's different on every car. I'm guessing the ones on that jeep model are easy since the vehicle rides high so it's easy to get under and the cat is completely exposed so you can probably hacksaw it off in a couple of minutes.

ive never heard of such a thing. it would be considered a wear and tear item. if it fails then you just have to replace it.

Major emissions components covered until past 2013 here in Canada on my 2006. The catalytic converter is certainly a major emissions component if you ask me.

Since our emission laws here are from the dinosaurs age, I would love to get rid of all my cats. My secondaries are already out, would love to take the primaries off as well.

Just because there's no law saying you have to have them doesn't mean it's a good idea to pollute unnecessarily.
