Default Nav override: Hybrid DVD created successfully

Well, I finally successfully created a hybrid Nav disc using my recently purchased 10.1 Nav disc and the Loading.KWI file from my 5.1 Nav disc.
Here is a short (shaky) video of me accessing the hidden override screen and then showing that it is a 10.1 disc. with all the new Nav roads and POIs.
If I ever find my small tripod I'll re-shoot and re-edit the video but you get the idea.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FV0fHHjEjA

replaced the original video with one that is more stable.

Ken

Very cool. Looks to be for a Gen4 system, correct? If so, does this work on the Gen5 system too?

Also, by pressing the 'override' button, does it really allow you to drive and operate the nav at the same time? And if so, do you have to click on 'override' each time you start the vehicle?

if you have the 4th gen then yes it does and yes you have to do it every time you turn the car off.

Yes, my hybrid disc is for a Gen4 system but the same (it's my understanding) can be done for a Gen5 system just have to use Gen5 disc to build it from.

Yep, you have to do the finger dance to enable the override each time you start the car. Now that I've got it working I'm going to try and get into the habit of just automatically doing it. Of course I don't use my Nav on every trip and I have been able to bring up the hidden screen even while driving... One must be extremely careful when attempting this because I've read elsewhere on this forum that hitting some of the other options on this screen can be dangerous!!

I had found the procedure linked to several places on this forum to the procedure originally created by someone in the Toyota/Tundra forum. It's pretty detailed procedure showing screen shots and telling what software is used for each step of the procedure. I had several failed attempts and some where due to the brand of DVD Dual Layer media I was using and other failures were due to not completely understanding some of the final steps. Although I also have a 5.1 Gen4 Nav disc either my attempt to extract the Loading.KWI file was not done correctly or I mixed up some files but those attempts also failed. I then resorted to just downloading the 5.1 Loading.KWI file off the net and used that to build my final disc. By that time I had also figured out a step that I was doing wrong to burn the final DVD so I'm thinking the KWI file from my disc should/could work now too.
I know have a disc image on my hard drive that theoretically I should b able to burn successfully again.
If you want the procedure I can find that original like to the guys procedure.

The 10.1 Nav disc that I used to make my hybrid disc cost me around $160 used.
The brand of blank Dual Layer DVDs that worked the best for me was a Maxell brand. I also tried some Ridata DL disc (inkjet printable) but I always got verify errors, which is disappointing since I can make those look good. So my total investment was over $200 and a big scare (when I had trouble ejecting one of the failed disc)

I found my tripod and re-shot the video showing access to the hidden services menu that contains the Override function and as before shows the data/POI version to be that of a 10.1 Nav disc.

Forgive my ignorance but what are you referring to when you say Gen4/5? Will it only play in certain year GS's?

He's referring to the generation of the navigation systems. The 2006 GS has a generation 4 navigation unit, while I belive the 2007-2010 have a generation 5. The navigation disks are specific to the generation of the navigation system. When you order a disk make sure you've got the right one!

The hybrid disk sound good and all, but wouldn't it be more cost effective to buy a nav override kit that would also allow you to do this and more?

Can you post the link to the instructions and the loading.kwi file please?

I've been trying to get this to work on a 2006 GS300 (Generation 4 10.1) with the 5.1 loading.kwi but it doesn't work.

I used the same procedure in the IS forum (Generation 5 10.1 with 5.1) but this doesn't work for some reason.

Thanks
