Default Range on Lexus GS430

A few months back, after filling up the gas...the range would read 330 (on the display mode under the odometer). For some reason now that I fill up, the range says 280. What happened to the 50? Even if I try topping it off a little bit more, says the same amount.

What's the cause of it? It does feel like less range. Is the sensor bad?

its probably your driving habits they may have changed and it is calculating the way you drive now!

Exactly. On my GS460 it goes from 345 when I do an ecu reset/when the car was new, to 220 once it figures out how I drive. To top it back to 345 I can reset the car but that would be kind of a phony thing to do.

It could also have to do with the winter ans ummer gas we use here in Kalifornia. You will get worse mileage in the winter.

Does the ECU reset when you replace the battery?

You only get 220 a tank in the GS460????

I know I've been driving hard in my GS350 when it says around 330 (typically around 380) after I fill up. I've gotten it to say 440 miles on highway trips...

I'm pretty sure it uses the last tank's gas mileage as the basis... or maybe the last few tanks...

I try not to even look at that since I do 90% downtown driving and mostly < 20 minute trips. It's killer on gas... I loathe to think what the numbers would be in my situation if I ponied up for a V8.

Try what was suggested, disconnect the battery for half hour or so before you fill up again and see what it says.

I think it definitely takes into account your driving habits and average mpg. I don't own a GS430 (though I'd like to one day) but I noticed the same in my car. When I averaged about 27mpg (not for the tank, but overall), my range on a full tank would read about 380 miles. I reset my ecu and my average currently reads about 24mpg and on a full tank I notice my range is now about 360 miles.

who cares about what the range says? I display the mpg and wait till the yellow empty light to come on and go for a few more miles and go get a fill up.

the range is calculated off the tank size and your mpg. just because one fill up says 330 and the next says 280, your still getting the same amount of gas.
