Default Quick brake question while in the snow.

I was pulling up at work the other day after a big snow. The parking lot is kind of on a down hill slope. I put on the brakes and it was so slippery that the car just kept sliding while I was on the brakes (crappy dunlop runflats). A buddy of mine was watching and he said that the rear wheels were still turning but the front were locked up.

Question is whether or not I have a brake problem?? I had that snow button pushed so I wonder did that prevent the rear wheels from locking up. I am not sure. I was fully on the brakes. Seems like car could slide but wheels should not be turning while I am on the brakes should they?? Like a 5 MPH slide.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Did your ABS blinks? And the traction control too but I think that's when you step on the gas.

AWD car. No traction blinking or beeping either.

I thought it's my imagination. I had the same experience with my 07GS350 AWD two times last year on a down hill slope with wet snow ( a couple inches). I applied the brakes, but the car just kept sliding. I think the front wheels were locked because I couldn't steer the cars.
I think the tread patterns on the RFT Dunlop don't have a good grip on snow.
The car were running less than 10 mph when it skidded. No lights popped up on the dashboard.

My 07 GS350 AWD does this sliding thing also in icy pavement. No lights or beeps. I believe the traction light beeps only when your wheels are actually slipping and the ABS light comes on if there is an ABS issue. I had 20" Falken FK452 on at the time. My guess is that its the tires, which perform poorly on ice/snow. I switched back to stock rims and tires today (have FK452 in stock size as well 225/45/18)) My plan is to get some chains and test it out.

the "snow" button ur talking about is for the transmission (i'm gonna assume it's the switch under the arm rest that also has "power" written on it). it slows down throttle input and i think it also starts the car in 2nd gear to prevent wheelslip so it won't do anything when ur braking.

I believe that the yellow traction control light flashing with no sound is traction control kicking in. When the yellow light flashes and you hear a beep, that is vehicle skid control kicking in.

jackballer, I'm not sure how the cars are spec'd in the US but in Canada, the stock tires are summer tires. If your Dunlops are summer tires, they are definitely useless in the winter, especially in the snow. I'm sure you already know this and it really doesn't answer your question. Sorry.

No winter tires can overcome ice.
