Lip or No Lip??
No it's what I call a personal taste. You may consider it classy, I consider it trashy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Wheels are an accessory, like shoes on your feet. I have seen many different styles of wheels I like, the same as I have a closet full of different styles of shoes. The difference is of course cost, but if I could afford it I d probrably have some liped, lipless, and step liped rims. I of course only have on set of aftermarket rims and they have lip and purchased them because they are the style I preferred, however I can say that I have seen lipless wheels on our cars and other cars that still acheived sexiness. Its all on personal preference and I enjoy seeing our car with a variety of wheels!
There's some nice looking concave wheels and some nice looking lipped ones too. The opposite can be said as well. In the end, a nice looking wheel that's not properly fitted doesn't look good. So fitment, camber, spoke design, color, and other things play a factor as well. In the end, personal taste should govern what you get.
For me, I saw the Vossen Concaves and knew immediately that I was going to by them. That's my taste though.

They both have their place. It just depends on the look you are trying to achieve. Cheap look has more to do with the wheel style and construction than a particular lip or no lip treatment. There are expensive wheels that look cheap and cheap wheels that look expensive in both lipped and non lipped wheel configurations.
Aftermarket no-lipped wheels resemble stock.
Here's where my opinion and logic comes in.
I can't see spending thousands on wheels that look like stock.
If you and others like that, cool. I just don't get it.
If I spend big bucks, I want it to look custom. I want it to look dynamic. I want it to look different than stock. A lot different. Not just a little different. But still classy like it could have come stock if they wanted.
When I throw away money, I want it to be completely worth it.

One of my fav cars of all time is the rare 3.8 911 RS (964) we didn't get in America. You can see the stepped lip Speedline wheels with a lip in the rear. LOVELY!

Another car we didn't get here, the M3 CSL had a concave staggered set up. Lovely!

I also think that BMW has become the trend setter in wheel design. They were the first to popularize split spoke 5 stars, they also popularized concave designs.
Amen, brother.
No doubt, I agree but here is fact. Most cars come stock with no-lipped wheels. I can't even think of a car that comes with lips from the factory. Maybe a Zonda but I can't think of another.
