Default Cost to repaint?

I recently scraped the paint right off on the passenger side wheel opening moulding (where it flares out), extending to the side of the bumper as well. I was backing out of the garage and i scraped the side against the garage door track. I'll never back my car out of the garage while on medication again!

The quote at the Lexus Collision Repair center is around $1500 Cdn (fx par with US). Isn't this excessive??! It's about double what i was expecting.

what color is your car? keep in mind its very hard to paint match any pearl color without blending. they will most likely repaint the whole fender and depending on how skilled they are they may be able to paint just a 1/4 of the bumper while blending the rest into the bumper.

It's icicle blue. So I take it, that's a reasonable price for a non-MAACO job?

Seems high to me. I had my bumper repainted because of an incident with road debris which also knocked out the parking sensor. They stripped and repainted the bumper and replaced the parking sensor with a new sensor for around $850.

Of course it depends what they have to paint to make it blend. Bumper is easy. Once you get onto the body you sometimes have to paint more than one panel. Plus there may be some dent repair work in your case.

he's getting his bumper AND fender repainted.

for a lexus collision center, that price is about right.

you may be able to get it cheaper at a private body shop..... but will they guarantee the work?

not really. blending is the same whether its a bumper or a body panel. what makes it harder is transitioning from a bumper to the body. the bumper is plastic and the panels are metal which alway give a different shade. even new cars, the bumpers are slightly different then the body

lexus collision centers are in-house. Not all dealers have the facility.

since they're run by the stealership, they're gonna be expensive.

i took a look at the toyota collision center at my local dealer, and it looks state of the art.

but you're gonna get the same quality of work from a good private body shop.

I have used the best paint shop in Miami and the JM Lexus paint shop, and I think the JM Lexus paint shop is markedly better. The pricing was a little higher, but worth every penny.

I guess i'll bite the bullet and go with them, they're willing to touch up some little spots for me around the car as well. Hmmm, wonder if it's worth it to claim insurance?
