Default Code: P0014

Anyone know what this means or can translate for me?
Or had this same code happen to them?

P0014

Definition
Camshaft position "B" timing over advance-
bank 1

Probable cause
1.Engine mechanical condition
2.Camshaft actuator condition

2006 GS300

I also added to the Check VSC thread because that was the main reason for me to get the OBDII check done.
Long story short, the Check VSC came on, the check engine light, the (!) (next to the check engine light), and the traction control (swirvy car looking light, on the top left yellow light) all came on last night.

Thanks for the help.

Did you ever figure out the solution for this problem? I have the same symptoms and same code on my 2006 GS300 with 144,000 miles. P0014 is the only code, so it seems to clearly point toward this camshaft sensor, though I am hesitant to throw parts at a trouble code without verification.

Thanks for any ideas.

- Does the engine make a different sound?
- Is there a remarkable change in performance?

If yes it might be a chain tensioner of the distribution chain being stretched. If not I would just try to replace the sensors. Changing the chains is a hell of a job. As the engine is an interference engine you don't want to mess op or the engine is Herochima.

Default Problem Solved

After posting my problem and looking further around the site, I found the location of the Bank 1 Camshaft Sensor, which was on top rear of the driver's side valve cover. It was very accessible, so I just unplugged the connector to get a better look at it. The next time the engine started, the code was gone and the engine ran fine, whereas before it was clearly running rough.

After identifying the sensor and before starting the engine, I had ordered another sensor, RockAuto had them for about $50. Instead of cancelling the order, I just replaced the sensor to prevent the possibility that it would go down again. Car has been running fine since.

Thanks.

Thumbs up Camshaft position sensor

I ran into the exact same problem today where the check engine light came on. I had somebody pull the error code and it pointed to the camshaft position sensor. I just wanted to make sure they are where I think they are. top left and right by the front of the engine bay? if anybody has a picture that they can post that would be appreciated. looks like a cheap 60 dollar fix if I'm right.

If it helps, my GS 350 made the same error when I unplugged the camshaft sensor while replacing my spark plugs, at the end it was as simple as plugging it back. I noticed it was that because the engine behaved the same just the check VSC light and check engine light, so try first by replacing the sensor, unplugging the neg terminal of the battery for 2 minutes, If that doesn't fix it I would suggest checking the chain tensioners.

Post Check engine

I actually have not changed the spark plugs yet but they are on a list of maintenance items at the amount of miles that are on my car. it has 128000 on it currently. With misfires probably being the cause however what you are saying makes some sense. I bought some new spark plugs a few months after I got the car I just haven't put them on yet. if I put them on and replace the sensors and that does not work I'll probably have to look at that. My main concern is determining where these sensors are located. I have replacements coming in tomorrow.

On your engine the 3GR-FSE check the pic for the sensor location:
