Default Tire/Rim Gurus - Need advice again.

I'm shopping for winters. I plan on using the 17" Toyota OEM silver steel rims, which I believe have a 6.5 width.

I'm leaning towards the X-Ice Xi2, factory 17 size is 225/50/17.

At TireRack, they list it has a rim width range of 6-8, but a measuring width of 7.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....7XI2&tab=Specs

Any foreseeable problems stretching these things onto the 6.5 wide rim, or would I be better off going with the near match of 215/55/17? I'd feel more comfortable if they are 7 width rims, I believe the factory alloys are 7.5 on 225/50/17s.

Thanks!

personally I would plus size your winter tires if your not lowered and can fit them. 17" is the best for our car so long they clear your BBK.

I have these on the 18" OEM rims and I was happy with them.

I'm just trying to keep the rolling diameter as stock as possible while fitting onto a 6.5 width rim. No real reason, any recommendations on what would fit that purpose the best are appreciated.

Will 16 inch steel wheels clear the calipers on a 2006?

Tire Rack shows this when I "search by vehicle":

Minus Wheel Diameter: 16"
16" Recommended: 225/55-16
16" Alternate: 215/60-16

If you have a gs300 then yes 16" will clear. If you have a GS430 then they wont clear due to the larger BBK.

I have a set of 16" take off rims and snow tires with less then 500 miles. WS60 Blizzak tires.

Yes narrower is better for snow tires but not stretching the tires.

My research at both Tire Rack and Discount Tire direct seem to confirm this. They will list 16 as an optional fitment for 2006 GS300 but not the GS350 seemingly accounting for the slightly larger brakes. This makes me feel a bit better, I can save some cash on both the rims and the tires this way and get a better ride in the process when going over the giant potholes every 10 feet down the road that you can't see when covered in snow during the winter. I guess the smaller brakes have their perks (along with seeming to not have the squealing problems of the newer ones. )

The little wheels are going to make the car look funny but I'm not too concerned about that I just want to do donuts in empty parking lots full of snow and ice. :P

I don't think the law applies in a mall/costco parking lot since it's not a public road. It's the wild west in there.
