Default After-Market Navigation...?

What are some of the preferred aftermarket Navigation systems available for the 2006 GS 600 or the 2007 GS 350?

I'm weighing my options on which car to buy...so I'm seeing what I can do if I get a good deal on one that doesn't have navi.

Should I buy an all-in-one deck? I wanted to get VAIS for my music necessities...but I want an in-dash Navigation system also. My main choice to go with the VAIS was because I wanted use USB sticks as my music source.

Is there someone that functions as well as VAIS, and is also a well-functioning navigation system?

this isn't a car you can just swap the deck in.

A/C controls work through the factory monitor and the gs comes with a monitor regardless of whether it has nav or not.

that being said, the factory system is NOT comparable to any after market system, but it's ok.

I've added the 4080 enclosure extremely well built custom fiberglass box for 1 12", alpine 600.1 monoblock, and the dice 1500 media bridge.

my phone is a droid so it has google navigation (not to be confused with google maps) this is an extremely sophisticated nav system that allows you to use satellite view, map view or layer with points of destination or not, and best of all it's free, and updated constantly via 3g..........sooooooo much better then factory nav..of any car company.

For aux input I purchased the dice 1500 media bridge which has 4 aux inputs
Sirius, Aux via head phone, Bluetooth AND USB.

My gps on phone can play though the car just like as if it was in dash, when connected via bluetooth, also it plays anything on the 16gb phone memory, pandora, or the 16gb usb stick that's plugged in.

I like this set up....best use of money, if I need better quality sound or louder I'd pull out all factory speakers and install 2 pair of good components and a new 4 channel amp but that's a lot of work for diminishing returns.

Get a droid X with the car dock, an awesome set up that can do it all, It's your nav, bluetooth phone, plays videos and your itunes library! ( if you end up without the factory nav/ml system)

I saved $2000 by going without ML or NAV, spent $375 on the box $300 on the sub $275 on the dice mediabridge....so that's about $1000 cheaper and now I have real bass, an excellent navigation system (my phone lol) 32 gb of mp3 storage, and BT ad2p input

BUT I did actually want the factory nav when I was looking, price just didn't justify it.

If you're going to get an iPod adapter from Vaistech and want navigation. See my old thread of what I did:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...gation-gs.html
Many navigation apps in the app store if you're bored or want to tailor your look and it retains steering wheel controls for iPod/iPhone unlike a Droid. Ends up pretty much like a carputer. Also, a lot of the apps are more functional than the stock GPS with real time traffic, 3D view, theming, etc. Looks stock without the clunkiness of a mount.

navi imo is worth it but there are better aftermarket ones out there. the ML system i feel is not worth what the dealer charges for it. if your looking for a navi system and you have an iphone, you can always jailbreak your iphone and use a tv out app that will display the navi from your phone onto the navi screen. its actually really nice looking.

$100 Garmin on the windshield works better than built-in navigation, but if you rely heavily on navigation the inconvenience of having to pull it out of the glove box and attach it all the time might suck. The main thing is if you have some kind of hangups about being seen with a garmin on the windshield and looking poor. :P

Well paying for a phone data plan is hardly free, especially where I live. Also assuming that you you can get data where and when you need it - but I do see your point.

I'd rather take a traditional GPS not tied into any wireless data requirements, for the time being.

hmmm I hadn't thought about that, my data is unlimited so it's not something I even consider to be of importance, but I'm sure if I was paying for data then heck yeah I would care!!

Flyaudio makes aftermarket navigation headunits for the IS, ES and RX, but not for the GS because the GS is such a low volume product. Their headunits are excellent though.
