The way it worked was when I bought my car new they said I had the option to have these features customized( you can find a list of the features and all of the options in your owners manual). I think after the first year they charge you.

does anyone know if there is a way to set the power sunshade so that when you drive off it doesn't automatically go back up?

i took the car to my local lexus dealer and they said it wasn't possible..but then again, that coming from the same guys who told me i can never get a smart card to work with my car..even though i know it's possible any many of you have done so.. >.<

unless there is a new updated LPS then no it is not part of the custom settings. The sunshade is suppose to go down in reverse in order to give the driver a clear view of whats behind him and when you start moving again, the shade goes up.

EDIT: This is not true... I had it in "always up mode" earlier this summer and thought it was this simple from memory... as CAK500 points out, it's not. I gotta fool around with it some more to see how I accomplished "always up" mode...

This works on my car to keep the rear shade up always:
While parked raise the rear shade. Then put it in reverse, and while in reverse (after it automatically retracts down) push the rear shade button again to bring it back up. After I do this, it is always stays up: forward or reverse, even after car is turned off.

Another benefit of the rear shade: reduction in visibility for vigilante would-be's behind you when riding solo in the HOV lane.

Mine will not do this. Anyone else able to get this to work on their car?

I do actually find it quite useful. I use it whenever someone drives too close to my rear bumper...to get some privacy and to give the message to stop harrassing. I do have some tint as well, but not that dark.

CaK500,
Apologies for the misinformation...
For several weeks earlier this summer mine was in that mode (always up). I put it down for a while and now I can't get it to repeat... I had thought my earlier post was the solution but I re-checked and (as you observe) it's NOT. Let me fool around with it to see if I can figure it out...

I use mine all the time.... or I should say USED it all the time until it siezed halfway up. Dealer quotes 1,700 bucks to replace, Lexus Customer Satisfaction willing to pay half (although I use it, not worth putting 800 bucks into). Any of you guys that don't use it want to rip yours out and send it to me? Actually, anyone know where I could search for a used one or one from a junked GS300?
Thanks!
