Default what would you do...

if u could choose between an 06 GS3 w/60k mi for $19k

or

a 2000 mercedes S500 w/120kmi for $10k

I know the GS is newer, less miles, better on gas and less to maintain but is it worth twice the price?

I would go with GS. S500 not worth it, they are known for plenty of mechanical and electrical problems.

I will definitely choose 06 gs300 over the merc.

$19k sounds pretty fair too. what option does it have?

The Mercedes will consume lots more fuel and cost
you dearly for repairs. Go with the Lexus.

a 5 year old car should be a little less that that. that thing came out in 2005

they say the benz has electronics problems. But does that affect the driveability of the car? if not, it would make a good beater car for 10k.

Buying a 10 year old top of the line high mileage vehicle with some known model problems is a gamble at best.

I reckon that within 18 months repairs on the Benz will cost you the 10 grand you saved.

Buy the Lexus. It's a no brainer.

This is the fair going price of a gs300, most are in the 20-25k range still depending on options...it has avg mileage at this point. Remember a loaded GS in 05 set you back 48k-49k.

All good points but you neglected to say how long you're going to keep the car. Short term get the benz if this is a long term keeper get the GS. insurance on the benz would probably be more too.

i have a family member that has the s500... had never had any problems at all... although, it IS a 2006.... he barely maintains it and barely know hows to take care of his cars too! IMO, the s500 is pretty bulletproof....

but when it comes down to both vehicles... sit in the cockpit of the s500 vs the GS.... i personally <3 the GS over the S500.... Mercedes has some pretty fugly interiors in it's day....even down to the s500
