Well I like the bigger cushion for a smoother ride.. What do your think I can go with 55 series?
I think the further you go over spec, the harder it is on your brakes... there is no FITMENT reason why you can't do it, it's up to you. Just remember you'll be going faster than your spedometer reads so it might get you into trouble with the law if you're not always aware of your real speed (by looking at your speed via a GPS, for example). On the other hand, it will be healthy for your odometer (and bad for your fuel economy readout).
The speedometer on Lexus is too optimistic anyway. I know that when I go 60, the speedo shows 62-63. That's 3-5% off. So, the slightly bigger tire, like 225/55/17 will make the reading more accurate.

absolutely true....by the way 225 55 will probably rub in the back of the wheel well lining while at a 30 degree angle or so...
