Clark which Vaistech kit did you purchase at the dealer? Do they offer the installation? If so can you share how much? I just purchased my 3GS and reading all the posts I am convinced this is the way to go. However, I don't want to try and wing it myself. If anyone knows a good installer in So. Cal please let me know!
Cali I went with the Vaistech SL2i-UP model. It supports the newer ipod/iphone technology. I went searching for the best price and found a local dealer on ebay (Koons Arlington Toyota) who was selling it below retail for $199. I had planned on doing a self installation as I have plenty of experience under my belt to accomplish the job but the dealer also said they could install it for $75. It cost an additional $50 to have it ran through my arm rest. but I took the plunge and I let them handle it. Didn't want to take any chances on blemishing my interior since it is still in brand new condition.
All in all no regrets. The interface works great and I can always disengage to control it directly and stream media all in arms length! There might be cheaper options out there but a quality ride deserves the quality interface and install.
Also keep in mind that I purchased the kit from a "Toyota" dealer. The guy who sold it to me told me the Toyota/ Lexus kit was garbage compared to the Vais unit. He said that he had put one in his wife's IS and hasn't looked back.

Another thing I like about the SL2i-up kit is that it 'presses' the OK button on the nav screen for me. That was something I didn't know it did until I installed it. Great surprise!

I almost forgot about that Tony. That's a priceless feature indeed. That confirmation screen used to drive me crazy...lol
