Default Toyota Navi vs. Others

So this is my first car with a Navi system from Toyota. Actually, this is my first non-Honda navi. It's taking me some time to get used to.

My question to you all out there that have owned other navi systems, what's your opinion on how our Toyota navi compares? I'm talking mainly about use and functionality moreso than asthetics. My Gen5 is definitely much better looking than any Honda navi I've seen or owned but my wife's Navi in her Oddyssey just is much easier to use, IMO. However, I've only owned my GS for just over a week now so perhaps it just takes time.

Thoughts?

i think you are right though. interface wise it's a toss and personally i like the lexus nav interface more. but in terms of ease of use and capability / flexibility, i still think honda nav is quite a bit better. something toyota has to learn and improve

Acura/Honda has the best system in the Market. Well Acura does and I assume the ones in Honda are the same. The easy of the system, you can use it when driving, the layout. Even with the new system where you dont touch the screen. I thought I would hate that but its easy to use IMO in our RDX. I would take the touch screen over it but will all the complaints from BMW owners years back on the 7 series I figured it would be garbage.

I wish our Navi was as nice and didnt have the lock out. But everyone will have their opinion on what they like. I also used to lease Acura's for my business car through work so its also what I was used to. I had an Acura TL while the others had a Ford Taurus Its good to know someone in the business

One thing I dont have in my Acura that I would like is the DVD player OEM. Not sure if they changed that but I think its standard on the RL and TL Not sure as I havent kept up with their stuff any more.

You will get used to it the more you use it. Post some pics of you car

I would have to agree that the Honda/Acura (and yes, they are pretty much the same. At least they were in the Honda's and Acura's I've owned) are a bit easier to use. Glad I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Mike...I don't have any photos but this one that I attached from the day I purchased it. Not a great photo at all (taken with my iPhone) I'll take more soon!

There is much worse then what we have.

1. Acura
2. Lexus
3. Audi
4. BMW

This is the order I like them from all cars I have owned.

I like the way Toyota/Lexus navi looks more than Honda/Acura, but Honda/Acura still the best for me in terms of ease to use and functionality. However, they are both damn good that that I don't mind living with either one of them.

Same opinion as above. Had several Acura TLs with NAVI before the GS. Found the GS system to be much harder to use than Acura's. But the map does look better on the GS.

you have a newer BMW...I had 2 BMW's (M3/540i) back in 99....they have come a long way and I can only speak from the past. Audi has stepped up the game in this department and got away from that sorry "arrow" system...my other cars it was aftermarket.

My wife has a non-nav 08 RX350, so we bought a Garmin 275t for it. Garmin is by far better, simpler, quicker, more intuitive, and more user-friendly than the Lexus nav I have on my 08 GS350.

The nav in my Audi sux comapre to my old Lexus. The basic function are soemwhat easy to use in the Audi, but the more detail functions are very hard to use. I agree Acura has the best nav on the market right now, but if Lexus unlock their nav, it can be as good as Acura's.

Have you guys played with the NAV parts of the Ford Sync system found in the Fusion and other vehicles? Pretty nice. The new software rev will update routes with live traffic data fetched from the Internet via bluetooth link through your cell phone. I also heard they are working it so that you can send addresses from a PC to the GPS system via the internet connection as well.

It's way more advanced than anything lexus has.

I too agree with this ordering. Personally, the Lexus one is way better than BMW (and Mercedes) IMHO.
