I would personally keep both, the joystick and the touch. Let the driver decide what he wants to use....

the idea of using a mouse / joystick is that they can now mount the screen higher and also push it in further for better viewing angle and also to reduce sunlight glare (in both cases it put the screen too far way for touch screen). that's partially why i prefer the screen location of bmw and mb, closer to the front.
