did you read post #12 and 13?

aftermarket glass for the 3gs have already gone into mainstream and rain sensor is not an issue anymore.

now if the car just come out of the market and you crack the windshield within the first 2-3 months then insurance probably will have to pay for oem. on the ls460, surprisingly, 1 yr after release and still no aftermarket windshield with rain sensors and stuff (i am sure they do now)

OEM costs more because it's made in Japan and shipped to the US, not because it has rain sensors.

It's important to read your policy and it's limits beforehand, so you know what you are getting as a service. The problem that most people have is that they pick an insurance carrier they trust and will assume everything will be replaced with brand new parts. It's up to you to understand what you're getting for your money...it's not because they're making up their own rules. The rules are stated in their policy booklet, there's no changes to the contract after you sign for it.

Your point is noted and I agree. I, like most I assume took the risk of not reading the full verbatim of the policy when I signed on. However, I think any insurance company interested in keeping them would make more of an effort to take care of the Customer in a situation like this. I have three policies with them already, am 26, and definitely could bring a lot of value to them over my lifetime. Why does Ritz Carlton authorize any employee to spend up to $2,000 to satisfy a guest? Because they probably don't have to very often, and because they want to take care of the Customer. I've had my auto policy with them for three years. At the time, I could get an OEM replacement. I've continued to renew with this understanding. The change went into effect literally a few weeks ago according to State Farm and the glass shop. Who knows if they have even sent out notice of a change in the policy yet. If it was, I bet it was buried in fine print somewhere. If so, shame on me. If they haven't communicated this yet, shame on them. Either way, while clearly subjective, I think it would go a long way for them to take care of the customer (and my new $50K automobile I'd like to continue to pay $1600 annually to insure with them, and my home, and my watch collection I would also like to continue to insure with them.)

Sorry guys, thanks for all of the good info. I'm just venting about the whole situation. Thanks for understanding :-)

When your tires wear out, you guys dont replace it with oem tires right, unless you are replaceing just 1 ? Thats because most of the time oem tires, just like oem windshields, are not the best quality or best performance and they are over price. That is one expensive Lexus logo on that windshield.

Just got my front passenger glass replaced. The installer mentioned that it was good I got the OEM glass as Lexus has a "lip" on it that provides a better seal.

I looked but couldnt see evidence of this.

Never heard of any lip on the side window, but the Lexus side windows are rain repellent, so oem is the way to go on the side windows.

Not sure why, but when I had to replace a side glass on my GX470, PPG did not make a glass that is water repellent. I had to argue with my insurance company to get the oem glass.
