not true at all. i know first hand from my tech at the dealer i go to caught someone with an IS who blew up his motor with mods and tried to blame it on faulty parts and get everything placed under warranty. needless to say they found all his post here on CL and gave him a bill for a new motor.
says it all. call me silly all you want but i know what techs have found and done
he had a PS kit and had an issue, nothing related to cutting his wires....
How relevant this is? One word: warranty.
What do you think the dealer would say if they pulled the unit out an saw the spliced wires? Do you think they would check any further, or would they say, "Sorry, no warranty coverage here. But we can check the rest of the NAVI elecronics for you for only $110/hr labor."
If your car is out of warranty, I agree, why spend around $300, I'd go wire-cut myself. But if it is still under warranty, is it worth saving $300 and loose warranty coverage for a multi-thousand-dollar device? I guess it's all about how much risk you're willing to take.

you make a great point, my point was that this guy had a bad amp and shorted wire, I think those are in the trunk...hard to link that to wires up front, anyways, if I do the wire hack again, I would simply spend the extra time and remove the pins from the harness and connect to them without cutting

speaking of which, if you know how to take out the pins from the harness, let me know. i have spent quite some time on this actually. either i don't have the right tool or i just can't find the way to take them out. on toyota cars it's so much easier
I think they just need extra force. I tried on the IS350 when I did the hack and they didnt want to come out for me either so I just cut the wires. I didnt try on the GS since I got the PNP kit this time.

umm maybe i can try again next time. i tried to pull pretty hard already but it didn't come out. i found the clip that holds all the pins, popped it, but seems like there is still another clip that i couldn't get to. toyota one is a lot easier to work with. they just have to make lexus stuff that much harder
ok thanks alot guys now since my car is out of warranty coverage show me which wire to cut? I already done the DVD hack to watch while driving by cutting that part... how about the dvd hybird that doesnt work either?
