Default 285/30/20 on the rears?.........your thoughts please

What's up fellas...need some advice. I recently put on some new rims on my 3GS, 20x8.5 fronts and 20x10 rears. On the rears, I currently have 275/30/20s. Well, the rear rims kind of stuck out. I don't like that too much. My shop recommended that I use a 285 instead. I think I would have enough clearance. I plain to use a 30 series as well...(the San Diego streets are rough). So far, I have no rubbing issues on the fronts nor the rears. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I dont see any issue and I agree with the 285 tire. I am personally not a fan of the stretched tires. I went 295 on mine but I am 10.5 in the rears.

It depends on the tire manufacturer. I had a set of Dunlop SP Sport 9000's that did not rub. When it came time for replacement the Yokohama S. Drive's rubbed bad. I went onto Sumitomo 275/30.

looks good to me I like the mild stretch look of the 275 on the 10.

I actually prefer my tires hugging the rim. I think I'm going with 285/30/20. I compared a 275/30/20 to a 285/30/20, and there is not much of a difference (diameter and circumference wise).

that's the answer. the size is just that, size. different brand and model can make big difference. brands like dunlop, toyo, they are round and narrower, they will help. but if you get yoko or bridgestone, etc... they are usually wider and more meaty, so you risk more on rubbing

Yea but look at the amt of gap the OP has so I agree some tires are different but with his current set up I dont think it really matters. In fact you could go 285/35 in there as it is from the looks.

Do you plan to lower or do anything else? That is the real question here. If not then the sky is the limit on the rears as you are.

If I do lower my car, it will only be in the front. Maybe 1/2 to 1 inch. That's it.

So... you'll have a factory setup on the rear and an aftermarket lowering kit in the front?

not recommended. you'll be changing the suspension geometry such that it will be unsafe to drive. you either go all stock springs, or all aftermarket springs or coilovers (but not both at the same time).
