Default Tires and Road Noise

Hi guys,

I'm looking to put some quieter tires on my GS. Right now, I'm running the Dunlop stockers (not sure if they are runflats?)

Anyway, road noise is an issue for me. I don't know if it's the car or the tires, but it is a little louder than I would like it.

I have heard good things about the Michelin Pilot's. BUT, I saw a new toyo tire in a magazine today...called the Versado LX.
Has anyone had experience with these tires? Maybe compared to the Michelins? I am just looking for a quieter atmosphere.

yes, those are runflats.
yes, it's the tires.
Sorry, I have no experience with either tire.

On the bright side, nearly everyone who has changed/upgraded their tires are extremely satisfied with how much less road noise exists. Virtually any tire that's runflat will make more noise than one without.

My experience for a good all season tire was the Bridgestone potenza re960 pole position
Stock size should be 225/50/17
you can go to tire rack for all the comparisons
The bridgestones show better than the Miches

Use www.tirerack.com to see which tires in your size/type are quieter.

Michelin PS2 is the best tire money can buy.
I'm currently running Bridgestone RE960 and I'm happy with the quietness. It would be even more quiet for you with stock sizes as opposed to the 20 I'm using.

How many miles do you have on your car. I had road noise on my GS after a few thousand miles and the dealer replaced the tires at no cost. No problem. only thing is they replaced them with run-flats which I hated so at 22,000 miles I replace them with michelin Sports and love them. No road noise an a lot better ride.

Only $114/tire at tirerack.

It's not the same tire if it's not a runflat.
Are you asking if people have tried other non-runflat Dunlops or does Dunlop make another tire with the same model name that isn't a runflat? It still wouldn't be the same tire though.

Anyway, I tried the Dunlop Sportmax tire. It wasn't the most quiet but it was okay until 10K miles. Then they were as loud as the cheap Falkens I tried many years ago. They were hard too. No more Dunlops for me.

I bought a set of these: 225/50ZR-17 Dunlop SP Sport Signature from tirerack.

Had them shipped to my garage and he just called to say while they aren't runflats of course, but the tread pattern is exactly the same. My mechanic seems to think road noise will not be any quieter because the pattern is the same as the runflats.

I guess I will find out when I pickup my car.

I am definitely looking for more of a quiet/nice riding tire. Performance is not much of an issue.

How would you compare Bridgestone's quality to Michelin's overall?

Getting new Primacy HP, Mich's this coming week. Non run flats, 245/40/18's.I will post a review after I have had time to road test them.

You are quite right about that. However, this is an extremely expensive tire. I paid less then half of what PS2 costs for my Continental ContiExtremeContact, which is the second best rated tire in its category according to tirerack.com. I've had these tires for 2 years now and I couldn't be more pleased with them. They grip and handle very well, they are wearing very slowly, and they are reasonably quiet. At the end of the year I'm going to replace them with the same ones.

I always thought Lexus incorporated the tire road noise in an attempt to mask the sound of the ticking fuel injectors, which in turn do a great job of covering the audible dash rattles.

Just fitted a set of Pirelli PZero Rosso to my GS430 awesome very quiet very smooth and plenty of grip...great tire !!
