Default GS350 vs IS350

I am trying to decide on what to buy to replace my old Mercedes. I've been looking at a slightly used 07-08 IS350. I drove one car and liked it. However, it feels a bit too small and a little too sporty for my age (45).

Lately a've been looking at some 07-08 GS350. Looks nice. The prices are about the same, around $35K, give or take couple grand, for a pretty loaded car. So, what do you think?

I will post the same question to an IS crowd, so I can get both sides.

I like the GS. Where I'm from, the IS is a dime a dozen. I hardly see any GSes on the road (second or third gen). If they're the same price, might as well go with the roomier and better equipped GS.

Originally, I was actually looking at the IS350, but the second I started looking at the GS350 and M35, I decided that the GS had better refinement and luxury. To me, the GS handles well and offers features not seen on the IS. It simply offers more. I then made the mistake of driving the GSh and discovered the balance and tremendous power that it has to offer and that could not be refused.

go with the GS...you won't regret it. I just had a IS loaner and man was it small inside.

if you already say the IS is too small and sporty for you, then the gs is definitely a better choice

Since you say youre 45, and the IS is too "sporty" and small for you, then go with the GS. But then again, I'm 22 and the GS is too luxurious and big for me Go with whatever car you like most

main reason for purchasing my gs was having passengers. when i test drove the is350, it felt little cramped in the rear, but front seats were actually pretty spacious and comfortable imo.. it was just that it "looked" a lot smaller outside, also that my next door neighbor's young girl had the exact same IS i was looking at

In addition to all the above opinions, I'll give my opinion in another perspective. A GS gives a more respectable image for a 45-year old. Better looking at formal events, going around with business clients, it's got a more executive and formal look to it.

same here in bc, GS are not common at all. you will always get looks because you don't see them on the road too often. but in the US, maybe different story...

I think based on your comments, you already decided on the GS. The IS is a nice car but it be too small esp if you have passengers to take around. I test drove the IS and my friends barely had any leg room in the backseat. Whatever you chose, just remember you have to like it without any regrets for the next 3-4 years. GL on your decision

I would recommend the GS. Its bigger and has more of an upscale fell. Not as sporty, but it will give you added luxury, and room.
