I rcently had my windshield replaced. When I was set up the install the lady on the phone asked if my windshield had the acoustic inner layer. I told her I wasnt sure, but its a 50k lexus and I want the best. When the service tech came out to install the windshield he had both the Gs350 windshield and the GS450 windhsield. He explained that the 450 is the one that get the glass witht the acoustic innerlayer, not the 350. I told him I wanted the car to be as quiet as possible, but to install what he thinks is the best. In the end he installed the windshield with the acoustic inner layer. I think I notice a hair of a difference but it could just be my mind. Anyone in the forum had theres changed out for the windshield with the innerlayer. I am assuming the glass on the 450 has the acoustic innerlayer because of the louder V8 so the inner layer insulates against the added noise of the extra 2 cylinders. This is only my hypothesis.
I ended up using the people that GEICO recommended to me and I was impressed by the fact that the my windshield actually says lexus on it like my original one did. I had 7 windshields in my G35 in the 5 years I owned it. I never had any isues with the glass, but it never said infiniti.

That's the difference with owning a Lexus and an Infiniti. Lexus > Infiniti.
I think the BMW 5 series have a strip of this stuff on top of the windshield and the earlier Audi A6 have it too among other cars. Its basically a coating of some kind of matal compound that blocks out the sun.
wow, 7 times in 5 years?!? how in the world did you manage to do that? are you tail gating 18 wheelers or big trucks that kick up rocks or what?
I drive on desert highways that are usually lined with construction trucks and the roads are one lane in each direction . So I would be driving along listening to music and then... BAMM. A rock will fly off one of the trucks going the opposite way at 70mph and crack the widshield. I have the clear shield on the car because with the damage even the paint of my old car, my hood used to look like a starry night from all of the rock chips
