Default Question about brakes

We have a 2006 GS300 with 30,000 miles. My wife took car in for various things today and the dealer said we need brakes at all four corners. Cost is $250.00,so,she said to do it which is fine.

I am going to pick up car with her tomorrow to ask questions. That sounds very cheap to do all four brakes, unless, they are only changing the pads, but,I cannot see them doing that without cutting the rotors.

Also,I can see the front brakes needing to be replace, but, the back usually last twice as long.On a side note,we both drive the car pretty easy. It makes me wonder if they are going to change the front while doing nothing to the rear.

Anyway, how many miles are some of you going before needing brakes and what are you being charged?

Rears should be fine, my fronts were done at 43K, cost was $300 or so, new pads and turned rotors....the mileage at which you need them is highly dependent on your driving habits and driving conditions....

My infiniti G35 2003 was 611 dollars for a full front brake job. New pads, rotors, and fluid, so sounds a little cheap to me. I dont like to turn rotors though . To me you already have a beaten up rotor that is starting to warp secondary to heat exspansion. Then you take a new pad and slap up against a rotor that has been shaved, which removes more mass from the rotor, therefore making it more likely to warp in the future. I usually ride the brakes until I get that tiny shimmy in the steering wheel under braking, then I do an entire system replacement. I used to drive the highways between phoenix and tucson ( middle of no where). Bec the area was so remote and desolate there was absolutely no police patrol. Granted the speeds would very very very commonly reach 110-120 plus mph, so the integrity of my braking system was nothing that I screwed around with. I love the desert highways. Open and clear, no cops, legal radar detectors, and no trees for them to even hide behind. Its a freakn free for all in AZ. Just 2 months ago they caught a dude at 200+ in an orange Murcielago , and a local football player who goy nailed at 147mph in a hyandai . The lawyers defense for the football player is..." can a hyaundai even hit 147mph". Well they got it on video, because in scottsdale they now have speed cameras on the freeways.

Seems a bit over the top to replace rotors with each brake job, though I remember the 06 gs430 had very high friction pads and rotors were recommended to be replaced with a service???? maybe I am mistaking....I know this was not the case with the gs300. I wonder if there have been studies done to test effectiveness and durability of shaved rotors versus fresh ones...
