Default Used or New GS350

Okay, Im in the market for a GS350, I have been looking for some deals but this is the dilemma i came across this whole time.

according to carsdirect, edmunds and kbb. A 08 GS350 is worth 40500 invoice.

lexus.com, 08 GS350 is 44150+packages.

Used 07 GS350, w/ navi,XM (as far as packages dont know exactly but if im interested im sure i can find out) and approx 12-25k in miles are going around $36-41K

So what would be the best deal in this situation

1 more thing, looking around, I noticed NO difference between the 06 / 07 / 08
bodys and options and cosmetics. Is this true or are there slight differences:uh0

It depends on which options you are looking for. Here in SoCal the GS' they usually offer here are packaged. You will normally see cars with NAV only packages or the Mark Levinson/Navigation package. MSRP $48K or $51K respectively. You will very seldom see any base GS350's out there so don't count on getting one for $40k.

There is a difference btw 06, 07, 08.

06 - GS300 3.0L V6 245hp
07 - GS350 3.5L V6 303hp - No exterior changes.
08 - GS350 - No change to powertrain, minor cosmetic facelift to front bumper/grille, interior trim, turn signal mirrors and etc.

Now the question is, how much is your budget and you are willing to spend. If you're looking to stay in the $40k range, you probably would want to look at a pre owned.

Good Luck.

you can't compare new and used cars and say which one is a "better" deal. from a cost point of view, new car won't make sense coz' you take a lot of depreciation. ALWAYS. but from a condition point of view, depends on your preferences, new car might be the only way to go

06 no gs350, just gs300. 08 is facelift, quite a lot of cosmetic difference. you can search thread started by flipside909

Okay thanks Guys,

but one question, how about an 07 GS350, and an 08 GS350, I noticed a difference in the side mirrors and a minor bumper difference. as far as cost per car, the used 07 is about 39K with 20Kmiles. and the new GS 08 model is 44+ navi and stuffcomes out to like 50k. as far as options, does the 07 come with the rear window power sunshade?

Ill have to start a new post for the reason why im getting a new GS

well, a used car makes more sense financially, of course.

BUT, you gotta ask yourself... how did that guy drive his car for that one year he owned it? 20K miles in 1 year... that's a lot.... did he baby the car? etc....

Personally, I was looking at a low miles (5-10K) 1 year used car, but I just couldn't find the color and options I wanted.... so I got new :-)

I personally prefer to buy new, but it all depends on what you want. I was considering a pre-owned car as well, but I just don't trust how people take care of their cars. If the previous owner takes car of it like my sister, then I would be in great trouble because she doesn't change her oil until like 15k or 20k miles and says it's "too much trouble". Things like that make me think twice.

thats true as far as were the heck did this person drive for 1 year to rack up 28k miles????????

here is the one i was looking at

its white with gray int, and XM radio, im thinking this is the loaded one, according to the lexus.com site. the lowest package that has XM is a pretty well rounded package. well here are the specs.

07 gs350
white ext, gray int
28000 miles
36900 dollars
no font and back sensors for parking,
has back up cam
has navi,
no idea on the ML system or not
well it looks like there are ony 2 packages XM comes on

what would you guys think of this deal

^^^ This one http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/672449430.html? Seems clean but no ML. I've seen ones with as low as 12,000 miles with ML and everything else for around the same price or $1-$2k more.

The MSRP on that car is 48K new, and most people bought it for around 43 + TTL.....so 28k miles later, I would expect more of a price drop, heck just 07-08 BRAND NEW car should be a few grand less. Makes no sense unless you get it for around 34-35 IMO

EyeKutr, what you said is so true,
the funny thing is that there is not one single 07 GS350 selling for under 37 any where.
there are alot of 07's in the low 40's it does not make any sence with about 12k+ miles on them. like you said the KBB price is around 32K-34K, so why such a mark up i dont understand..

i have a suspicion that people start high and expect to get a few grand less. Exactly this time last year I needed a new car, I found my 06 gs300. I wanted an 07 but did not want to fork over 43 to 45 plus ttl. I found a guy who was selling the wifes car LOL, he told me mileage was like 31K miles, asking 37....fully loaded (nav, ML, sirius, new tires, chrome 18s) . He told me he may go down to 34 ish. So I went and car was super clean but odo said 37,8XX miles. I offered him 32 and was done. I even saved a bit more on taxes if you know what I mean. Look around, people are realistic, the economy sucks, I think a car advertised at 37 can usually be had for 35, if not less.

the asking price is usually off anyway, they expect people to lowball

given a new gs350 is around 44-45k, a used 07 (one yr old) with around 12-15k, i personally would NOT pay more than 35k for it. yup, 10k drop, like it or not that's the case for the car in my eyes

^^ agree, I found 2 great deals at the time both on craigslist, one local and one about 50 miles away. I did look through autotrader.com and yahoo autos (maybe same).
Here is Bruce Lee selling his car LOL - listed over a month ago

man the GS usually will lose 15-19k in value in the first 18 months. I am blown away by this fact. The GS lost vale like a freakn chevy. I dont know why it is or how they set nthe deprciation but its a fact. So if you can save yourself 15 grand and do a little more leg work ( minus the new car smell) you will have a pretty nice ride for a sweet price.
