Trans Shift Question/VSC
Hi:
Some thing funny just happen to me today. As I was turning from a dead stop the trans shifted in to second gear about 10 mph that's fine now here's what I don't understand Remember that i was in second around 15 mph now when I floored it thinking it would down shift in to first but to my suprise it stayed in second all the way to 6000 rpm then in to third so I called the dealer to ask why this happened and they said it was normal because of the VSC system that did not let the trans shift down to provent the car from loosing it and since i'm new to Lexus I'm not sure. what Do you guy's think is this true and also how do I turn off the VSC when i don't want it. reason I ask is because on my 2007 vette it will down shift in to first from second at 20 mph.

When I took the GS350 to willow springs I had to turn the VSC off but when you leave it on your lap times are 5-15 seconds slower depending on the line you take with vsc on!!!!
I hate the damn VSC system. It ruins the cars ability to pull hard out of turns. Yes the car is quick in a stright line, but turn the vsc off and it feels like a g35 with a better trans and smoother engine. I have the 275/30 in the rear and have been totally unable to break the rear loose on corner exit.( with the fat rear tires and the soft suspension most of what you induce when pushing is understeer) I love the way the car feels sans VSC. With it you feel as if the system was designed for driving on ice. The threshold on the system is set so low.( Road and tracks review of the GS 450h this month had some complaints about the system as well, saying essentially that the car cant realize it potential with this ball and chain of a system.) I think its setting feels more like a design flaw than a safety measure. Im sure all of us who are drivers of previuos cars with a traction control systems can agree that the lexus system is a little ridiculous. You guys out there who are enjoying some nice weather, turn off the vsc and drive it hard and I think the car will surprise you in terms of the cars ability to accelerate full throttle out of a turn ( especially with the fat rear tires).
