Default Navigation - trapped in Compass Mode

Has anyone figured out a way - when using navigation - to get out of compass mode?

2007 GS

while in Nav, I had selected compass mode and got this great compass on the nav screen - no map, just plain background.

Now, I think I'm pretty good with this stuff, but this really has me stumped. There is no way to back out of compass mode and get back into the map view.

I tried pressing the MAP button to no avail. Tried input new destination - this shows the map briefly then switches back to Compass Mode - no map, even though audio navigation takes place.

Tried turning off the car and re-starting . . . nav comes up in compass mode - no map.

What am I missing here?

Thanks to all.

ahh yes . . . compass mode. You must utter the magic incantation after depressing the 'talk' button . . . say: COMPASS MODE while the map is displayed. Now . . . how to get out of it is the real question . . .

I'll admit I haven't done a search for it yet on this forum . . . let's see what I can find out.

umm i remember getting myself into that mode once before. i remember it wasn't as trivial to get out. can't remember what i did

you sure there isn't some sort of "back" button or "close" button? it's really been a while, but i recall something like changing the 'mode"

Press the speak command button on the steering wheel. Say "Map View" clearly.

There is a touch screen button on the left lower corner I believe it's the second to the bottom one where you select display modes (for split screen, compass, different navigating display, etc). You will have to touch that button again, (although in compass mode it may be different color) once the sub-menu pulls out from left to tight, I think you touch the very left rectangular to bring back regular map display.

Whats the use of this compass mode? The compass on the rear view is good enough for me.

this compass mode is different, it's a lot more precise, not just 8 directions

"single map mode" or "dual map mode" should also work.

well - moral of the story is - don't select compass mode in nav. I'm sure that I'll figure out a way to get back to the street map view - I'll keep fiddling - but so far the usual commands like 'map' 'map view' 'single map' do nothing - compass view on blank background and no escape. soft buttons available are 'mark' and 'route' - tried them both and still no way to get back to map view.

thanks to all

I think if you follow my instruction you will get your map back. Look for that icon. It's as simple as that.

Or if you want a guided instruction for your navigation, here you go: http://www.toyota-eshowroom.com/part...html?ref=t.com

just for you, i've decided to play with it on the way home, it takes me 1 second to go back to the regular mode.

it is exactly the way Memasterac described it.
