Default XM Radio Antenna

Was looking at a GS 350 AWD black on black with the spider wheels... nice looking car... but when I asked the dealer about XM radio he said it was a dealer install and a small antenna would be attached to the trunk lid... is he for real?

Do you have a shark fin on your car? if so there is a cable that can be used to attach to that. otherwise they use a goofy mini hockey puck like antennae. have seen some put in on the trunk lid, others on the inside shelf under the back window.

The salesperson gave you some misinformation. The GS350 has a shark fin on the roof (near the back glass). This is the actual satellite antenna.

Yes Shark Fin is your antenna.

It's an easy DIY install (parts are $270 thru Sewell Lexus - a board sponsor) and takes at most 2 hours - even if you're not overly mechanically inclined.

There is a shark fin on the roof... do you have to go thru the headliner to install the cable or can you connect behind the radio????

its in the trunk - the sat radio goes in the trunk and the antenna cable is waiting for you in the trunk

here is thread with more info
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=288790&page=2

and a picture I took

the box is the same location for sirius and xm and the foam covered wire in the foreground is the antenna hook up - the box you are seeing is approx opposite the gas filler on the pass side of the trunk

Having it to do over I would have done it myself

The only catch with sirius is you need a cable to connect the sirius box to the shark fin - its about $60 and its linked here somewhere

Default Factory XM Radio

The antenna cable terminates in the trunk, right side, behind the trunk liner.

The GS350 is prewired for a factory XM tuner (Part Number 86180-0W030) that mounts inside the trunk, on the deck (near the rear deck speakers; not like the aftermarket Sirius unit in the pic above).

Additionally, you must also order a specific wiring harness, depending on whether or not your GS350 is equipped with Mark Levinson sound, which integrates the aforementioned XM tuner to the radio system. All connections are made in the trunk. It is a fairly simple DIY project.

What about for an '06 GS300 - no shark fin? We've had the car for a little over a month and I am getting prices all ofer the board. At Lexus of Sarasota, the dealer told me that they actually install on the roof.....for $899!

I really don't want the trunk install because another dealer stated that it needed to be placed on the passenger side, centered on the trunk edge. Again, I'm not sure what's true or not.

HELP!!!

I have an '06 GS300 and I self-installed Sirius. It was very easy. I placed the antenna in the inside of the car behind the rear seats right next to the brake light. I tucked the wire between the rear glass and the carpet on the rear deck. And to prevent the antenna from sliding around, I bought a piece of velcro, works like a charm.

It doesnt 'have' to be placed anywhere in particular. without a shard fin, you have to put the puck antennae somewhere where it will get a clear shot at the sky. have seem them on passenger side edge of trunk, in the center of the trunk near the back seam and inside on the rear window shelf. never seen a puck ant. on roof of a car. common sense says you'll get a bit better reception outside, especially with sirius which is known to have more signal challenges than xm. window tint can be a factor. just about any spot with clear view of the sky and that is pleasing to your eye should be fine.
