Default Cracked Widshield! Aaargh!

Woke up this morning to find a crack down the middle of the windshield of the GS300. It's right over the place where the rearview mirror is attached. My theory is it's caused by my wife moving the rearview mirror everytime she gets in the car to look at her make-up.....which shouldn't happen. Since a glass shouldn't crack on it's own, without an impact it must be a warranty repair. Do you all agree?

yes, if it's not caused by rock chip from outside, it's warranty

I see absolutely no impact mark and no spidering which usually follows impacts.

No need for warranty, Insurance covers all of it without having to go to the dealer. Depending on your insurance company, they'll use OEM and not aftermarket.

With a $500 deductible, that's not much to be happy about. I'm sure it won't cost more than that.
Since the oem cracked, probably better to go with an aftermarket product.

Did you run a pen along the crack? if the tip gets stuck in a tiny chip that it was damaged.

Talking windshield...

The real cause of the problem is not with your windshield; I'm sorry to say, it's the wife. My wife also uses the rearview mirror for makeup...I always ask, why not use the lighted visor vanity mirror, that's what it's for??? Sometimes she moves the rear-view mirror to her side (passenger) while I'm driving, which drives me crazy.

Note: I am not against marriage; I've been with the same woman for 15 years ! *

* and if my wife finds out, she'll kill me

Don't tell her cause mine pitched a fit when I suggested her actions may be involved. Every time she gets in the car she moves it. She uses the visor only if someone else is driving.

Florida law states that it has to be fixed for free regardless of deductible. Call your insurance company and tell them you just noticed it and aren't sure what happened... they'll send a company to come out and fix it the same day.

$100 deductible FTW! Check w/ your dealer and see what they can do first though...

If there is no pit, then its a stress crack. It should be covered under warranty.

Seems strange but JMLexus bodyshop said they do not change windshields for any reason...even if the damage is not your fault.
They referred me to some other glass repair business. I contacted my insurance co. and was told there is a florida law that windshields are fully covered without a deductible charge.
Sounds like the car dealers are taking advantage of this and getting the insurance to foot the bill. This kinda bothers me. My windshield did not appear to have suffered an impact and we don't remember hearing one. If so, that means the dealer gets away without responsibility for a possible inferior part. Premiums rise. Just the whole thing sucks to me.

Oh yeah, I got the windshield fixed.

maybe you can check with insurance to see if they would raise your premium? maybe they won't. i know some states don't.
