Thanks for the instructions.. I'm currently in the process of having a hybrid disk burn. If that fails, i'll use the 5.1 disk and disconnect the battery. We'll see and keep you guys updated.
Have spent a lot of time on this one. If you have a Generation 4(hardware) Nav system (gen of nav is different thing than the dvd version being used) the hybrid between 5.1 and 7.1 doesnt seem to work. have had success with 5.1 and 6.1 but the 5 and 7 combo doesnt work on a gen 4 machine like my 06 GS300. Several others with gen 5 navs have reported success burning a 5 and 7 hybrid.

no need to disconnect the battery, you can simply pull the fuse for the NAV and reset the system without having to lose pre-settings for the radio, seats, ect.
I tried the override thing on the GS350 tonight where you press menu -> volume -> tap top left, bottom left, top left, bottom left but the other menu never came up with the override button option. What did I do wrong?

Doest it work if I make a hybrid DVD 5.1 firmware for an 08 IS350? My IS350 came with the v7.1 data & firmware. Anyone has a link for v5.1 loading.kiwi file handy?
Anyone who already has installed a Ver 5.1/6.1 hybrid disk. If you get a Ver 7.1 disk you should just go ahead and install the latest 7.1 disk.
My guess is because the Ver 5.1 loading file is already loaded as your NAV system firmware you might immediately have the 7.1 maps and also have the 5.1 override.
^^^ I don't think that works because once you put in the 6.1 or 7.1 the system automatically updates giving you the firmware from that DVD. I'm like 90% done on my hybrid disk, it works but its kinda slow when navigating through the menu. I will try to re burn it using a different brand DVD.
I've not heard of that. Can you find us who did v5 + v7 and where is the thread post? Thanks.
Some references in here. look for the post from timeToy. several of us spent a lot of time on this last year. nobody with a gen4 system was able to get a 5/7 hybrid to work. 5 and 6 yes. several people with gen5 systems did get the 5/7 to work they say.

that's right. when you insert a dvd, if the firware on the dvd is newer than what's in memory it loads automatically. so if you are using v5 firmware and put in a 6 or 7 dvd, it will load new firmware. on the other hand if you have v7 firmware loaded and insert a v5 dvd the system will ignore the older firmware and not load it. you end up with v7 firmware and old v5 maps in that case. you have to pull the navi fuse or disconnect the battery to empty memory first if you want to go backwards on firmware.
I've burned 7 hybrid 5.1/7.1 disc and no one works.
I'm wondering if my 08 GS nav ecu is not taking any old firmware. Anyone here is So. CA with a gen 5 5.1 disc wanna meet up and let me try the disc. Wanna make sure that my nav ecu will take older firmware or not, before i waste more disc and time.
