Default Love my Smog Sensor, but...

sometimes when I turn the car on, the smog sensor changes from auto to either fresh or recirc (the auto light goes off)...I am in and out of my car 5-6 times a day, and it seems to happen at least once a day. Anyone else have this problem?

2007 GS350 w/ 4000 miles

Thanks in advance!

The smog sensor is only supposed to work for a short period of time them reverts back to the last mode you had it on i.e. Auto or manual. It's not supposed to stay on 100% of the time as it's designed to switch from fresh to recirculate when it senses particulates in the system.

Is the smog sensor suppose to go on automatically? I've never had this happen. I've turned it on and it reverts back the way it was before after a few minutes. Also, how is it different than the recir? Thanks.

Lets see. The name tag and the pics are hosted on my site. I was taking the pics while we were driving on the freeway as I was driving my own car, so that means............

Haha, thanks Heng350. Do you know if he just added on the mufflers or he also replaced the Y-Pipe as well?

I think you mis-understood me...I always keep my setting on "Auto", but for no reason at all, sometimes, the auto light will go off, and it will go into manual mode...This only happens when i turn the car off and then back on, and also, not all of the time, but at least once a day.

I have never actually seen it turn on by itself. I have only ever seen it light up when I press the button manually.

Is it broken? or do you think the levels of smog where I am in Boulder just aren't very high, and that's why it has never needed to turn on.

Is there a way to test this to see that it is working properly?

And about the "auto" thing. My car always defaults back to "auto off" when I turn the car on. No matter what I had in on before I shut her down.

That is not normal operation of your HVAC. Seems like the computer is getting confused or is defaulting to manual mode after a certain amount of cycles. You probably should have it looked at by your service dept.
