Default 18 inch or 19 inch Wheels

I want to replace the stock 18" wheels on the '08 GS. I like the 18" spider wheels from Lexus but was curious about 19" wheels. Would the 19" wheel rub under any circumstance? I read the 20" wheel may have problem over bumps and I want to avoid any rubbing whatsoever.

Also, will the ride suffer much on 19" wheels compared to 18"? For what Lexus dealers charge for the 18" spider wheel I can buy a nice 19" for a few hundred more. What should I ask for a set of brand new 18" wheels and tires on e-bay? $800.00 seem reasonable for 4 brand new tires and 4 brand new wheels?

Thanks.

Offsets and width are very important. Are you planning to lower the car? 19" wheels with the right tires will clear with no problem.

I was thinking about getting the MRR wheel on e-bay specifically designed for the Lexus GS (correct offset, etc.) I was NOT going to lower the car.
AS for tires doesn't the wheel use a specific size/width?

I didn't want to "hurt" the ride too much with oversized wheels. Will the staggered 19" MRR HR1 still retain a smooth ride? Otherwise, I will go "conservative" and get the Spider wheels (18"). If I auction off the brand new 18" standard Lexus wheel on e-bay should I ask $399.00 for 4 plus shipping? $100.00 per wheel seems like a steal because it cost more than that to "recondition" a wheel.

Take a look at the wheel and someone can post a picture.

www.stores.ebay.com/need4speed-motorsports

page 2 listed for $1216.00 Nice!

IMO, go with 19s... I would go with 20s but thats just me. Do you currently have the 18" 5 spoke wheels? Lowering it could make it look better, I like the spider wheels as well.

I was skeptical at first to go with anything larger than 18's but decided on the 19's. My order is being shipped this week for MRR's. I did lower my car first with Tanabe NF210 springs and the ride really is no different than stock (they claim 5% variance over stock so there you go)...but the look is better as EVERYONE on this site would agree with. When i mount the 19's it should look even better.
Do the 19's and be happy!

The larger the wheel, the lower the profile of tire, the harsher the ride.

I know zero about wheels and tires, so I'm just curious, if the larger wheels equals a harsher ride, why is it considered an "upgrade" to get the 18" wheels vs. the standard 17" wheels?

looks better to some people (including me)
possibly better handling due to lower profile, wider tires

I just got mrr GT1s on 20's lowered with eibachs. The ride isnt bad at all but there is a difference.(ie. scraping, not being able to drive without worrying about dips and bumps, etc. etc) Especially cause my tires are so thin. Once my tread wears off, Im gonna return it back to stock. My advice would be to leave the car as it is and enjoy it.

Who did the work to lower your car? How much did the new springs and labor cost? Does the dealer offer this?
How much lower than stock is your car now? 1/2"? Are you concerned about rubbing with the 19" wheel because your car is lowered?

Thanks.

total cost for Tanabe's installed for me was $400. a local performance shop installed it...fairly easy looking although i would never do it on my own. i think it lowered the car like .9" in the R and 1.3" in the F...or maybe the otherway around..either way it does look a lot better. ride is really the same but a little firmer
not really concerned about rubbing yet but will be able to tell you after this weekend if i have issues.

Where can I purchase those springs? Would a good local mechanic know how to install them? Or, do I need to drive 1 hour to your shop for installation.

Does your local Lexus dealer offer lower springs? Does this affect the warranty? Your dealer is actually my closest one so I am curious to read your opinon.
