What do you guys think of the extended warranty , is it worth having??
1,995 for 7yrs/75,000, thats actually paying 3yrs after factory warranty. This is a promotion getting platinum for the gold price.

sounds too much money. personally i am not a fan of extended warranty on the lexus. that's just me

and i think the price is too high. we were offered 1300 for extended warranty to 7yr/100k for our sc430, which was more expensive than the gs (unless 450h)

ga132- You need to first consider the following questions before you get an extended warranty:

1) Do you think you will actually keep your car more than 4 or five years?

2) How many miles do you put on your car a year? Is it less than 10,000 miles a year? For a 75,000 mile warranty:
10,000 miles/yr = 7.5 years
10,714 miles/yr = 7 year
15,000 miles/yr = 5.0 years
20,000 miles/yr = 3.75 years

You can see if it's more than 10,714 miles a year you will not get 7 year coverage. However, if it is a lot less than 10,000 miles/yr the chances of a Lexus (150,000 mile life time expectancy or greater) having major mechanical problems in that 7 year period is very low at best.

3) If you so sell your car before 7 years or 75,000 miles, is the policy transferable to you next Lexus (assuming you buy another)?

I am not an advocate of extended warranties. It's like life insuance, you are betting against yourself that you will not live very long. Car agencies love extended warranties because they are money makers. With a car that is as reliable as a Lexus, IMO I'd say your wasting your money.

I'll post a simple answer: If you think the various electronic/electrical components in your car will require attention between years 4 and 7, get a warranty. Mechanically, you have terrific odds of the car lasting 200,000+ miles with scheduled maintenance.

I paid $1795 for the GS450h. If I had any other model other than a hybrid, I would not have got the warranty.

^ IMHO, you should wait till the very last minute to buy an extended warranty (like month 47 or at 49k miles). You car could be stolen, totaled in a accident or simply traded in for a new car before the factory warranty expires . . .

FWIW - if you have Nav, Hids or ML, you should consider an extended warranty when the time is right. A new Nav screen is 2k, AFS Hid lamp is 2k, and with ML, you never know if an amp or speaker will blow. . .
