Default Is it worth it doing exahust mods???

I am wondering if the Lexus world is just like the corvette world I came from in which catback modifications only gave you a better sound, no real gain in HP. If it gives you 10 hp or more, thats great, but a grand just for sound is a bit much for me.

Input please???

I think all exhaust mods on all cars are like that. You need signifigant boost modding in order for the exhaust to be a real effective mod. Keep in mind that performance modding on a 3GS is nearly inexistent. Your mental dyno is the only thing that will tell you that you gained horsepower. Other than that, you gain decibels. Adding an exhaust on this type of vehicle is purely subjective for the owner too. For me, engine modding of any sort on my GS is simply out of the question unless the aftermarket realm releases some bolt on mods that will give me an instant 300 RWHP increase.

If you're looking to mod a car, engine wise, i suggest you buy another car to play around with and keep the beautiful GS in stock trim... engine wise that is.

Dyno's on 2nd gen GS show gains of 0 - 3 rwhp, so you're spot on.

If you do exhaust, your mainly doing it for the sound (if you like it louder / deeper) and looks (which you can add aftermarket tips and get part of that same look)

Cat Back Exhaust Systems Dont Really Add Any Power. They Usually Just Add Noise Wich Makes You Feel Like Your Moving, But As Far As Hp Gains There Is No Real Increase For Normally Aspirated Cars. Becarful Bec Some Of The Systems Will Cost You Low End Torque For Power Near Redline. Not Worth It On The Street Bec You Need That Mid Range Passing Power. My Old Infiniti Had Full Intake, Plenum, Headers, High Flow Cats, And A Borla Exhaust, It Sounded Like A Beast But All That Noise Gets Old When You Are Tired From Work. The Tanabe Exhaust Has A Nice Dyno Graph But I Am Still Deciding If The Extra Noise Is Worth Essentially No Increase In Horsepower But Some Extra Fun When I Get On It. I Still Drive The Lexus Relatively Mellow Compared To My Last Car So I Wonder If Its Worth It
