Default '06 headlamps overheating

FYI. Not sure if this is a problem over all but I want to share what I found out from taking my car for service due to a faulty headlamp.

So I wrap up my sales deal and am driving home at 10pm, I notice the headlamps are not lighting up far enough ahead of my car very dull (compared to my 2nd gen GS that i just traded in). I though the headlamps were out of adjustment so I take it back to the dealer (Longo) they tell me the lamps are adjusted fine and within "specs". I tell my service guy to just have them adjusted up a touch because if that was within spec then it just sucks and isn't right. He says they moved them up.

Fast forward a few more days, I get out of my car to open a gate (at night) and notice 1 headlamp is blown out (Im pissed, this can't be). Turn off the lights and back on then they are both on again. Take it for a test ride, BOOM the other headlamp is out..."what the "F"?" For the next few days, the lamps are going out alternating left, right, right left..there is no real pattern. BUT i do notice the lamps only go out while on surface streets, I drive 40 miles to the GF's house all freeway and lamps stay on just fine, minute i get on surface streets BAM either left or right lamp goes out.

I take it to the dealer again they find out the bulbs are overheating which is why they go out on surface streets (slower speeds) but not on the freeway (at 60 mph+ Im getting enough air through to cool them). So they fix the problem and all has been well ever since. Except that the damn ding dong service tech didn't bother to make sure the headlamps were lined up and the right lamp was shining about 10" below the left so back i go to the dealer to have them adjust and get an earfull from me for not checking that after they worked on the lamps.

I am posting this because I see other 3rd gen GS' driving with one lamp blown out. I have been able to catch 2 guys at stop lights to tell them what to do, they didnt even notice it was out. I didnt notice either until I, totally accidentaly, stepped out of my car while it was on and the lamps were on then noticed. The one headlight is enough to cast light across the front of the car.

Hope someone benefits from my headache.

bought it with 5,800 miles on it. I thought it was weird too but since this problem (about 1.5 months ago) I have seen 5 GS' with one lamp out which is why I decided to post this msg apparently it's not as isolated as I thought it was.

Thanks Armand. Hopefully i can get the light fixed this way. My Lexus dealer quoted me $1800 assuming that i shorted the lighting ECU. I don't find this to be true because like you, when at highway speeds the lights are fine.

SLAY, just got off the phone with my service guy at the dealership and he said that they replaced the bulbs, that was it. Is your car still under warranty? I was not charged for the bulb replacement. Assuming of course you haven't modified the headlamps in anyway.

One other thing I forgot to mention, you won't have a "Dummy light" light up on your dash showing that there's a problem with the lamps.
