Ok. Since I have an 06 GS430 I have no shark fin I have to do a Vaistech install for either IPOD or XM since they suck and can't produce a unit for both like they have been talking about forever. So now I am stuck...IPOD or XM? I'm curious to know how many people have done which one. I have an 80gb IPOD but love the variety of XM radio (no sirius since I am a huge ACC football/basketball fan and I have NFL pkg at home on direct tv)
I installed the OEM XM unit from Sewell. Shipped it was $286. Because you don't have a shark fin you will use the small (very small) puck antenna that you can attach to the lower right corner of your rear window. The way the window is set up it is hard to see and gets great reception. Sewell has the instructions on their web site and it is an easy install.

My dealer offered this for $1000 extra when I bought my car. I said "no." $286 plus install sounds more reasonable.

Chuck, just to verify, you are able to control XM through your NAV system and steering wheel controls and see the song, artists, etc on the screen?
im having the Vaistech IPOD integration put in next week. The guy doin' it is also gonna unlock the NAV/BT/and DVD systems while he has the display out and hes in the dash. 1:Bluetooth & DVD hack/unlock
2:NAV hack with toggle switch/override installation (in console by seat warmer/cooler switches)
3:VAIS installation
everything installed/performed on car at my home or work (whichever/wherever i prefered) -$700.00 bucks!!
too much?? just about right?? good deal??
lemme know before its too late!!
thanks.

Even with the unit included it's too much IMHO...
It took me about 45 minutes to do and it really wasn't hard at all.
I think for $700 you can fly me in town and I can do it haha.

another angle to look at:
how many hrs did he estimate for job?? i would look at hourly cost as basis
even if he estimates 7 hrs and at $75/hr (which is high for that kind of job) it would be $525 total. its only labor u r paying for since u have the vaistech right??
i think around north fla indep shops would charge $40-50 per hr
Actually NO....i dont have the VAIS yet. That is included in the price. Heres the deal: He told me if i wanted to do the NAV/BT/& DVD hacks alone, the price would be $350 i think. (that included wiring and mounting a toggle switch in the console for the NAV bypass like i had mentioned before) BUT if i wanna do the VAIS installation at the same time (since he's in there) it would cost $700. He also told me if i wanted to do just the VAIS installation it would be like $650 (which includes the cost of the VAIS unit). He charges almost nothing to do the other hacks if you do all of them at the same time. Plus, that means you/he only has to tear the dash apart once. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
to make a long story short........i decided to do all the mods at the same time and pay the $700. Just wanted to get everyones opinions on the issue. its basically a done deal! Tuesday the 31st.

1. I installed the OEM sirius myself and it took all of 1 hour...very easy
2. Vaistech IPOD I had installed and ran it into the glove box so when IPOD is hooked up it is out of site.
Both work great and are both controlled off of the steering wheel or nav screen.
I would not buy the IPOD again because you can only play playlists...no search etc...
The OEM Satellite is great because it is installed in the trunk by adding jumpers to your amp so there is now removing head unit, etc..just carpet and trunk liners....The way to go IMO..
