Hmm I guess I should call back the glass shop to find out if I'm getting a stock oem glass or not.

been mentioned a lot of time before, if the defect is directly related to the aftermarket part, they can deny warranty. but if you put on aftermarket windshield and then the engine blows, they have to warranty it

Your best bet is to get lexus windshield since it seems these cars have a rattling issue. If you want lexus to deal with the issue and not blame it on substandard glass or something like that than you better get lexus oe windshield. Another lexus owner had lowered his auto and lexus blamed the rattling on his car being lowered so maybe the same could happen with your windshield.

Isn't the OEM windshield water-repellent? I wonder if any aftermarket ones are like that?

On the ES350, only the front seat side windows (driver & passenger) are water repellent. Maybe it's the same on the GS.

Just re-checked Lexus site:
"Water-repellent front-door glass"

The side windows are treated to make water sheet off quicker than untreated glass for better visibility. If you ever go through a drive thru car wash, notice how the soap and water runs off the side windows differently/faster than the other windows. I guess it's a good thing.

BTW, nice pic of your car!

Ok checked. yeah that car place says they were going to use a generic glass (not lexus branded) because it was 2x cheaper. they are checking with my insurance company right now on if they can get the oem glass. I told them I wanted my warrenty on my car to stay good.

they said the insurance company wont cover it. I would need to pay for the difference for the $1500 for the lexus branded glass. WTF. I thought my insure will do any glass as long as I pay the deductable..

Find out why the aftermarket glass is so much cheaper? If it is due to thickness or some other safety feature than call your insurance company back and let them know that if anything happens you will sue them especially since the glass is part of the integrity structure of your car. Have this documented that you have brought this up with them and that they are still installing the inferior glass if it is the case. But if the glass is equivalent than I guess it wouldn't really matter than.
