Default Rattle Comes from Cup Holder

I have not read all the threads on rattles, so perhaps this has been covered before. But what I find is that if I place a cup/can/water bottle with a diameter smaller than the cup holder, I hear a rattle. But if the cup/can/water bottle is large enough to engage the spring of the cup holders, there is no rattle.

Try this: remove whatever is in the cup holder and flick the plastic part which is spring loaded. Sound familiar?

I hope that helps some people.

I heard a rattle from that area as well. I have about 5500 miles on my car and I'm starting to hear rattles. I wonder if it's because I try to blast my music and things are getting shook up?

im not sure what is causing your rattle, but my door that swings and covers the cup holders got messed up. i took the whole console apart and removed the cup holder module. lexus wont sell me the little part that is broken, but generously offered to sell me the entire cupholder assembly for 550 dollars. hooray.
