Default Nitrogen Tires

Has anyone received an offer from their dealer for the nitrogen tire inflation system? Got one from my dealer for $74.00 whereas they say it improves fuel economy, braking, handling, temperature and wear & tear! I'm not aware of the benefits of nitrogen but I doubt if it would save me $74.00 worth of gas a year but I could be wrong! I have run-flats if that matters.

There are definitely benefits in using nitro, but than you will be stuck with your dealership or a local priceclub place (either BJ or Cosco where they offer it) to inflate your tires. You can't mix'n'match air and nitro, always have to be consistent. I think just by switching out of those horrible rf, you can get a lot of those benefits I'm just waiting for those to wear off until I will go to normal tires. I already got 5k and probably will be looking to switch at around 15k.

That's way too expensive. It cost only $25 USD equivalent for my RX300 down here, and Costco down here was offering it for only $18 USD (includes all 4 tires). I know Costco in the states offers this, too.

Do a search on CL for nitrogen...the benefits are there (I know), but that price is way too high at $74.

Just curious, are those $18, $25, $74 supposed to be one time fee or do you have to pay it yearly?

PAY FOR NITROGEN FROM A DEALER? WTH?
Never.
If they started charging me for what I have always been able to get free at the dealership, I'd switch to air.
Yes there are more benifits, more stable, so in winter, your TPS won't go on/off on/off. The lbs reaction is about 1/2 lb for ever 70 degrees. whereas air is about 2 lbs.

AIrplanes can only use nitrogen for the expansion contraction at -200 in the air.

It's more stable.

And yes, there is supposed to be better wear and better control, and blah blah...

Not worth the 75 dollars though. But it is better...

Nitrogen sounds good but I won't pay my dealer $75.00 for something I can get at costco for $20.00 as previously mentioned. You would think a LEXUS dealer would or should do it for free!

My Acura dealer offered $39.99 and feel no different at all in milage or driving confort. I don't plan to get it when my Lexus offers the same thing!

That's how much the nitrogen costs to fill up once. I think Costco's membership is like $30 USD a year.

Hey, maybe they charge $74 for a set of those 4 green valve caps they have to replace when nitrogen is used in your tires?

It make a bigger difference up here with the lack of oxygen in Mexico City. The tires get very hot, and although racers want their tires sticky for traction, they don't want it to a point where the psi jumps around in the tires when they are racing.
