Default Oil Service Message

I have a 2006 GS300 and there is a message saying "Oil Service required" in the message cluster window, and a red triangle warning kight on the dash board. The manual says you can reset this message by holding down the odometer reset button for 7 seconds as you start the engine.

It does not appear to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Close, but you need to hold down "ODO Trip" AND "Reset" at the same time while you start the car. Make sure you hold down for over 7 seconds because the oil service required reminder may go away, but the reset hasn't cleared it at that point. I recommend holding it down for 10 sec just to be safe.

You have to make sure that you are on odometer and not on Trip A or Trip B.

Your odo will still show the mileage, but nothing else (temp, fuel econ, etc.).

Hit the start button twice without your foot on the brake pedal (don't start the engine, just put in accessory mode). Do this while holding the reset button until the oil reset message appears.

Try this first:

1. With car engine OFF, hold down both the “ODO TRIP” and “RESET” buttons (located in switch box).
2. Continue holding down buttons, while you start the car.
3. Continue holding buttons (approx. 7 secs) until reset occurs.

If first method does not work, try this:

1. Push the “ODO TRIP” switch in the switch box to
change the display to blank (only odometer mileage showing no trip A or B).
2. Turn the engine switch off.
3. Turn the engine switch on with the trip meter “RESET”
switch held down.
4. Keep pushing the “RESET” switch for longer than 7
seconds after the engine switch is turned on.
After the above operation, the master warning light comes
on, a warning tone sounds and the above message
appears to inform you that the engine oil maintenance
data has been reset.

Good luck.

Hmm....

Tried all of the above mentioned combinations on my GS350 '07 - no luck.

It does not appear to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Amendment to my previous post:

Tried again WITHOUT having ODO button pressed (i.e. Reset only).
Finally got Oil Maint. message reset on my 3GS350AWD2007
Also another note - you do not have to start the vehicle.

1. With ignition on (regardless of the engine status), select your display to the following reading:
-> Upper part of display - Oil Maint. Message (blank in normal conditions).
-> Lower part of display - Odometer reading (NOT Trip A/B!)
2. Turn off ignition.
3. Without touching brake pedal, touch Start button once.
4. You will get Info message on the display
5. Press and hold Reset button (only) on the control panel AND at the same time touch Start button again while still holding Reset button.
6. In 5-10 second display will show confirmation message that Oil Maint was reset.

touching the start button once gave me no display, but at that point I held down the reset button and pushed the start button again while holding the reset button. I did not need to step on the brakes.I got an "oil milege reset" display and so far no further warnings.

So obviously the system does not monitor the quality or cleanliness of the oil, just the miles since last change, correct?

Why is this such a cluster to get rid of...how annoying! I have been trying for a week to no avail. I thought it was tied to the Maintence on the touchscreen, but evidently not. What a bunch of useless features...how about the little oil mileage reminder on the little piece of plastic the dealer sticks on the windshield.
