I did a search and was hoping to bring all the comments into one thread...
I bought mine in May of 06 and finally had the chance to drive it in real winter weather (I am here in BOSTON and we had a storm past couple days).
I have a few questions:
- What does ECT snow do?
- If the car is stuck in snow, how do I get it out (read on..)?
- I read that becuase of the VSC, the tires won't continue to spin to help get the car out -- is this true (hence the reason I ask about how to get the car out)?
Overall the car has performed pretty well...I didn't think to use the "ECT SNOW" option until AFTER the storm (though I admit, it seems to help).

Thanksa lot
from what i know.. coming from a person who dont have snow in the country..
ECT snow... it "softens" the initial acceleration of the car so that your wheels get enough grip/traction on the road.
to get out of snow... press the VSC off button and steady acceleration on the gas pedal. what VSC does is that it controls the spin on all 4 wheels, to prevent slip at a certain speed.. but when the car is stationery, trying to get out of mud, snow, etc.... it just messes up your chance of getting loose.
Heres what I did when I tried to get out of a deep pile of snow after doing a parallel park: My car was in snow mode, and when I was spinning trying to get out, the vsc came in. So I turned off the snow mode and put the power mode to allow more intial power to launch me out quicker before the vsc kicks in. Other than that, I never got stuck in 8-9 inch of snow even going up hill.
