I believe the '06 3GS black onyx doesn't have a clearcoat, but I could be wrong.

Eternity3G you have a white 3GS so if you could help me that would be great. If it stands out very much like any other color then I will just get the color i really want ( Smokey Granite Mica ). Thanks! ~
My experience with white cars is that they are VERY forgiving when it comes to light scratches, swirls, and the everyday dirt that collects on the car. However, there are all kinds of white these days; it's not as easy a colour to match as one might believe. That said, white is a fairly safe colour to maintain.

Good luck!

No, my black onyx did come with a clear coat, but I know that the black onyx shows scratches and swirls, more than a white car would.

I almost got a LS, but all the people were giving me flak because they didnt understand VIP styling ideas.

Anyways, good choice on car, itll be in the shop a heck of a lot less than all your friends that have bimmers.

Get white, do not get black, black is a royal pain if your a kid, it looks great for alllll of 5 minutes after you wash it. Since youll be heading off to college, you wont have a bunch of time to wash it. White is far more forgiving, and I think draws more looks from girls
But, just about any lexus color will be quite hard to match should you get scratched
what college are you thinking about of curio?

How can you tell from looking whether its a clearcoat or not? I can tell you from watching the paint process, and speaking with the people who run paint shops at a number of major auto plants in the us. White cars typically don't have clearcoats. It saves cost. It may have a pearlcoat, but that still doesn't imply a clear.

And this does include TMC paint code 080, which I know is the white on the IS, ES, RX, as well as camry, corolla, solara, avalon, tundra, tacoma, etc. I'm reasonably sure it was the 06 3GS white, not sure about the new one. Black Onyx (code 212) does have a clear.

He didn't choose the LS, they bought it for him and surprised him. ~ Also, thanks for all the input, looks like I will be getting white, because you're right, the LS we have now is black onyx and it stays nice looking for a good hour then when we drive it the same day its dusty . Not cooL.
