Talking New HKS Exhaust!!! (PICS)

Ok, some of you may know, but I've been dearly departed from my car for the past week. HKS requested to borrow the car to R&D a new exhaust. The prototype piece looks great and it is presently on the way back to Japan for production. Here's some pics (sorry so blurry) and I'll keep you updated when I get it back! I think retail will run ~$1395, but they said it's not set in stone yet. They told me that the system is set-up so that it's only loud when you want it to be. It doesn't have that super annoying loud resonance around the 2k-2500 rpm range, so don't worry about sounding like a Civic...

Ignore the Titanium tips.. It won't be Ti. The tips were used to measure the length of tip required to clear the bumper (as a measurement).

And yes, Y-Pipe included...

The 2IS piece production is completed, (I asked just for the 2IS'ers and plus I'm thinking of getting one for my girl ) They can't release the piece yet since the TMS (Toyota Motorsport) Exhaust (avail through Steve n Louis @ Carson) is built by HKS. There is a contract stipulating that the actual HKS piece can not be released for a few more months, but they said it is done and on the way....

thats the strangest looking exhaust i've seen.. what's with the 'pre-muffler'? or do you put fuel in those so you can throw flames out the back for that price, it should.. thats double the Tenabe system ..

I've also wondered what that 2nd canister is for on the HKS exhausts. Their exhaust for the 350z has that 2nd canister too and I've no clue as to what purpose it serves. Anyone know?

probably some sort of resonator but that's a wild guess.

The second "pre-canister" is basically and simply put, called a "sound resonator". It does not affect the exhaust flow, but it does affect the sound resonance/frequency between 2000-2500 RPM. If anyone has a open custom piece, you know that annoying resonance when cruising!

Also, the price may be re-adjusted down to $1,100 retail rather than the previously stated $1,400...

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. I know several of you are already itching for the part... It's a drug man... and HKS is your pusher.... hahaha!!!

OH!! and BTW, When I was at HKS, I had the honor of checking out that 2nd Gen HKS/Vertex GS w/ the 2JZ-GTE!!! OMG ... What a car!!! (of course it was covered in dust)
