Good find, that was a good video, I kept watching it over and over, I wonder what speed they test the car at, and it also amazes me how fast the airbag comes out, the thing was fully pressured up before he even started to move forward. Where do you guys think you have to get hit from to get the front corner airbags to deploy on the pillars. I didnt see them on the video.
i love how the airbag hits the dummys face so hard that the paint rubs off his head....my friends face looked like it got peeled off when her air bag deployed
they put the paint on to see what parts of the face came into contact with what part of the airbag and interior trim, they also put it on the knee, arms and hands
The test was 40 mph
Watching the 3 luxury Cars/SUV-2005 the RL and STS both look like the airbag deploys after the dummy's head starting moving whereas the GS deployed before the head started moving. Another thing too is the RL and STS both look like they give some serious whiplash
type of airbag that has twin chambers. The two air pillows open up next to each other and leave a cleft in the middle to allow the passengers head to avoid impact pressure. I hope that this type of airbag will be installed in the '07 GS. Safety first...

I didn't mean for this to be a comparison, but since you brought it up, the RL was rated one of the top ten safest vehicles.
Here is the complete list in order.
Acura RL
Volvo S80
Honda Odyssey
Acura TL
Chrysler 300C/Dodge Charger
Lincoln Town Car
Buick Lucerne
Lexus ES 330
Lincoln LS
Honda Pilot
The RL also receieved a 5/5 rating for all categories tested by the NHTSA.
The GS did receive a GOOD rating by the IIHS which is the highest rating that they give, but it only received a marginal rating for head restraint.
IIHS ratings for each car. Both scored well, but one thing to note, in the GS test, the dummy's head hit the roof rail, which did not happen in the RL test
Test details:
The Acura RL was redesigned for the 2005 model year.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Test details:
The Lexus GS was redesigned for the 2006 model year.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy’s head hit the roof rail.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low.
side airbags that deploy next to the outboard seat edge to protect the torso. That makes 10 airbags.....Lexus Link will be available as a factory option for the first time on the GS. If an airbag deploys the Lexus Link notifies the Lexus Link center which and an adviser will ask if the owner and passengers are OK. If there is no response the adviser will send emergency services to the cars location which is provided by GPS. $900 including first year safety and security level service...
