You are assuming the GS460 will get the new 8 speed transmission on the LS460 right from the beginning ? I hope that is the case too, but it may not necessarily be.

I know you can't compare Lexus with Mercedes, but when their 7 speed transmission was first introduced, they only put them exclusively in their top of the line models, the S/SL/CL. The E class, CLK & below did not get the 7 speed until later . . .

You're right. But at this time the 8spd auto is the only transmission that we know of that they have mated to the 4.6L. Wouldn't it save on R&D and production costs to just make the 8AT standard with the 4.6L across the line?

Still though, you could definitely be right.

Maybe there won't be a GS460 or 430. They are having fitment problems with the 4.6 and the 8 speed tranny in the GS.

Heard about the fitment problems w/ the engine from my dealer as well. Hope that it's just a bad rumor.

man, i hate waiting.. can't wait to get my hands on the gs 350. i was actually planning on buying a range rover sport =o what a mistake that would have been.
