On Monday I was at Mt Soledad Veteran's Memorial in La Jolla, CA to witness the breath-taking view.
My trip went something like this:
Park my car, get out, shut the door, hit the button on my key fob to lock the car... nothing.
Look at the key fob closer, push the lock button... red light on key lit up, but no response from the car.
Get in the car... push the button to start, display reads, "Key not detected."
I start thinking... a 2 month car, broken already.
Ended up locking the car with the actual key, and thank god, remembered when the dealer explained how to start the car manually.
Drove down the mountain back home, and the key worked fine.
What happened at the top of the mountain that kept my key from working?
My first thought was altitude... but then I later realized, there's a handful of major communication towers up there that must have been interfering with the key's signal.

Would you tell me the manual start procedure? I don't recall hearing about that--other than holding the fob really close to the start switch (this is when the battery gets weak).
my remote got stuck there also many years ago when i lived on mt. soledad. i don't think any remotes work by the memorial.
as for the manual start, my dealer said to just hold the fob right next to the start button and push start. the car only needs to sense the chip in the fob to start. if the battery in the fob dies, the chip is still inside, so you just have to bring it close to start it. Butta, is that what you did?

yep! removed the actual metal key to lock/unlock the doors too.
