It's not one of those 'override light' things is it? Like when your instrument panel is set to max light or min light, other interior lights dont go on (or stay on), and Night View mode on the screen is affected too.
It should switch on/off as necessary. If it's a bulb then that's easy to remedy. If it needs a part then some orders are requiring a call to Japan to get. Keep us posted.......I have seen the rear LED's drop out of the ceiling and they are coming in from Japan now. Overall the GS introduction has been smooth..
I was hoping it was some kind of override condition that enabled or disabled it. The manual indicates its just an on/off function with no other factors affecting it. No big deal, I'll have the dealer correct it when I have the oil changed.
Dumb question. When turned on, does the trunk light then shut off automatically when the trunk is closed? Like a fridge? I didn't want to get inside to find out!
If so, then maybe the problem DaveJ is experiencing is the defeat switch not connecting when the trunk opens.

of course. I would rather think it is an light gone bad than actual switch.

Yes.. You can verify that operation by turning the switch on so it's lit when the trunk is open, then close the trunk and peek into the trunk via the rear-seat flop-down cup-holder door that allows access to the trunk.. That's what I did (or should I say my daughter did). I've had the switch on since then with no problems.

While the car was at the dealer, I had them repair the trunk light. All they did was remove and reinstall the light bezel and it began working. Must have been a loose bulb or connection.
