Question Do you have this on your new GS?

I noticed something strange near the trunk recently after a weekend wash - there are 2 small parts that look like they have been glued to the strip of metal near where the trunk lid meets the rear window. It looks like a QC afterthought at the plant, but IMO it looks like crap and I don't see how it adds any value or has a distinct purpose.

Just wanted to see if you all have this too, and if anyone can shed some light as to why they added these after the fact (did Lexus do this at the plant, or did they tell the dealers to do it??). They really look cheesy, and although it may correct the shape of that metal piece, the fact that it is glued on there is really lame. And although you can't see it on the pics, the color match is not right either given that it was done post-production.

Sorry for the nitpick, but it's bugging me now. Thanks for your help!

Interesting. Looks like an afterthought to keep little fingers out from the area?

Yes I have the same small piece as shown in the photo. As small as it is it must have been put on at the factory. Otherwise the dealer would have had to use tweezers to install it.

It does look like an afterthought. Wonder if it helps keep water out of the trunk?

Keen eye on your part for noticing it. I doubt I would have noticed it with my over 40 eyes.

At this point I would say it looks better without that piece even if the contour is a bit off. I know it is small, but once it gets your attention it doesn't look good at all.

Lighten up. It was a joke...and it was light humor at that. Nothing vulgar or derogatory.

I pray not all Lexus drivers are prudes.

I will say things like that anytime I feel its appropriate. CENSOR me for living.

No apologies. No further discussion on this from me...

Edited to say..I just noticed your driveway Lexuslover....thats effin incredible...The cars are alright...the 3 bay garage is downright gorgeous. See? I can be nice too.

Edited again to say...I take it all back...Man your stable has some fine horses...or umm I think "horses" is too mustang a term...maybe "dragons" suits your collection better..yea...Nice dragons...very nice....adopt me.

Oh yea, and I am very female-friendly. Thats kinda parta the reason I splurge on hot whips. Also, there's nothing wrong with guys getting their nails done. I get mine done from time to time and I think I been labeled a metrosexual. How cool is that huh?

Lexuslover...I am probably prying but man...I live in NYC and we don't have 3 bay garages liek yours. We have drab buildings. Your humble abode seems to have alot of character and personality just by the garage alone. I have never seen one anyway. Can you post some pics of the castle those bays are attached to? If not, I understand.

OK LXO,

Im still waiting on delivery of my GS. Today I was told 3 to 4 weeks. When it arrives, I'll have a look-see if these things appear any tacky.

Well, just taking an educated guess...maybe they are there acting as a "bumper guard sound dampener" to keep the two panels from rubbing against each other, which may have been causing rattles. I am probably wrong.

You also would have to worry if its painted under there....or if you do remove it, how will it affect the paint?

GS430 we just got this weekend here in the UK does have these little bits as well, although they don't seem quite as prominent and noticeable on our car/colour?
