Hey guys, quick question. How do you access the top of the rear strut in order to replace it? Can it be accessed from the wheel well or do you have to take apart the backseat or the inside of the trunk?
Thank you. I’m having my rear shocks replaced tomorrow and I wanted to make it easier on the mechanic so I went in and pulled out the trunk liners. Not the easiest of jobs, but it’s done.
And I only broke two clips. Those two little white hollow pegs that hold the trunk liner to the back of the inside of the trunk. Does anyone know where I can buy replacements for those?
edit: figured it out, it’s part number 90467-12069
No prob, merry Xmas. I did the same when I had mine done. You got the KYB shocks and mounts?
So I actually (probably stupidly) went with OEM. Bell Lexus was running a 20% off special so I went with it. I plan on keeping the car for years to come (I’ve had it 14 years and just did my second timing belt). I’ll post back up on the other thread I started once the work is done.
I need to get an alignment, correct? Is it a good idea to wait a week or two for the shocks to break in? Is that even a thing?
There are worse things to splurge on than OEM parts, especially if its your baby. Yes to the alignment and yes to let it break in for a few days. And the car will seem like its sitting a little higher, but this is due to old shocks / mounts being a little sagged down. But your car will ride like new. You doing fronts too?

Yes, front struts and mounts and rear struts and mounts (although I’m debating whether the rear mounts actually need to be replaced because I’m not seeing any soft rubber parts on the new rear mounts).
Thanks for the tip on the alignment. I’ll plan on taking care of that early next week.
Do the rear mounts too. Ask the tech to check your suspension components while the car is up. I ended up getting sway bar bushings (figs) and end links (senkei 555), and then did the alignment after they were installed as well.
All done. The ride is like brand new. I’m actually searching for bumps instead of avoiding them. I’m going to wait a few days and then I’ll do the alignment.
